Many governors including ours are more concerned about the harm the virus is doing.

We're closing down again here too (Washington), not quite as heavily as March. I like your attitude too Karen, am glad you are not upset - hope the unemployment benefits will see you through this rough time.

Good for you looking at the bright side. I'm glad your governor, like mine, is concerned with keeping people safe. I do feel sorry for the businesses.

I keep thinking about something one of the older farmers in the area I grew up in about geese and sense.

I went on summer vacation end of may, and never got called back ... only a stimulus check to live on ... it paid for drugs for a couple months ... thot I would be back in August ...

I found out tonight at work that my old friend's daughter lost her new father-in-law to the virus today. He was only 53 with no health issues before the virus. He will never get to meet his grandchildren.

KY also had their highest number of deaths today, 33. Including people in their 30s, 40s and early 50s. While he was talking at the news conference ignorant people were ranting in the messages that it was a hoax. I'm so tired of these people.

Thanks everyone. Our casino always had a good crowd so I don't foresee it closing completely. We generate a LOT of revenue for the state. Hoping it reopens at end of December. Since the stimulus bill is stalled my check will be $200 less then my rent a month. But i saved my money so im able to cover it and food and utilities.

In our neighborhood there is a shortage of tutors/babysitters. Kids learning online have created a few problems for the parents. On the nextdoor app I often see tutors/babysitters needed threads. That’s a job opportunity. Samkarenorkearn, do you have nextdoor app for your neighborhood?

A number of our rival companies have shut their doors for good. One that shut down was owned by an old classmate of our president. The owner of the company called the boss to see if we could take on any of his employees. We are trying to see if we have work for one but it’s tough, as it is getting for many businesses.

The only people with job security and paycheque security are public sector workers. And maybe those who work in “vice” industries like casinos or alcohol.

The rest need to worry about having an employer to go back to one day.

I honestly envy the people who were able to stay home for months on end last Spring. I work retail in one of the busiest drugstores in the city and it was chaos all those months while we worked our tails off for an extra $2 an hour while potentially being infected by people who didn't wear masks (they weren't mandatory at the time) who yelled at us because we didn't have toilet paper or hand sanitizer (like the rest of the country). And when people complained I reminded them that even with being laid off and collecting CERB, most people were making more money staying at home watching Netflix and learning new recipes than the cashiers in our store took home even with the extra $2 an hour which was taken away and now the #'s are much higher than they were in the Spring.

My father instilled in us to always have at least 6 months rent, utilities etc in the bank for emergencies. I've always done that. I much prefer going to work every day but I do enjoy a little time off.

Our area moved to Orange status on Monday and rapidly moving to Red. Orange has vastly reduced hours for restaurants, with seating limited to 4 per table and 50% or less capacity. Movie theatres and gyms are still open, but with 10 people allowed. Casinos are still open and heaven knows why. It's not essential services.

A long-time restaurant is closing it's doors next week, one of many casualties.

Red means closures of gyms, casinos, movie theatres, etc.

I hope that this is over quickly so we can all work without fear of dying!

I am older and it is not the actual dying that I worry about but either getting there or being left with health problems.

Got an update from work earlier. They are covering our insurance while we are off....we can cash in 40 hours of vacation time and we are getting Xmas bonus. That makes it easier for a lot of my friends.

If you are in Wisconsin, good luck on reactivating unemployment payments. The last count I heard it was 50,000 cases behind, but then, that's old data from a couple of months ago. it may be better at present.

I'm in Wisconsin--with the first round of shut-downs & lay-offs, it took the State of Wisconsin almost 2 months to get my son's unemployment approved. Huge runaround with him spending hours on the phone & having to chase down documentation. Was told that he had to actively seek employment (counter to everything we 'heard' about eligibility), which was patently ridiculous given the shut down. And then he had to do some sort of phone testimony w/ an unemployment 'judge'.

Later, when he came down w/ covid despite being religious about wearing a mask...he spent over an hour on the phone with the 'contact & trace' person. Contact & trace then contacted my husband and that was a 30 minute phone ordeal. (I didn't answer my phone when they called me because I knew the drill,) Probably took the contact & trace person the better part of a week to run down my son's contacts. I supposed that by the time they were done, his contacts had already come down with it and recovered or were dead. Yeh, exaggerating, but not by much.

In the midst of all that, I called a local hospital--the only places doing Covid tests at that time--to get tested. Was told that a nurse would return my phone call. This was in late September. I'm still waiting for them to call me about getting that test.

Based on what I've seen, I can't imagine a worse way to respond to an epidemic that what I've witnessed here in WI.

Unfortunately layoffs happen even in the best of times and in my state unemployment is at a snail's pace also. Plus they don't have the extra money to give like before. People wait months for a check. Up at camp where we spend most of our time the local hospitals are laying off nursing staff due to low census.

I'm sorry you're going through this again. I know it's rough even with a positive attitude.

If your looking for a temporary job? UPS & FedX is hiring everyone who applies. All you have to do is pass the background check, at their expense, takes about 4 days...your in! Or Christmas help @ grocery stores, Walmart, JCPenneys, .....the list goes on.
