I would respectfully disagree with your choice of light and care. From the photo I would say your growth is very unhealthy. Internodes between leaves are much too large. Keeping a soil moderately moist is a recipe for disaster. I would read up on basic bonsai care on the FAQ page here. Looks like some kind of privet. I would encourage you to read up on bonsai and look at a lot of photos of trees you really like. I'm not sure how much time I would invest in this material. I would probably put it in the ground for a few years if it were a temperate plant and let a main trunk develop and chop off all the growth you have now. I see a lot of new to bonsai people invest a lot of time in less than adequate material like yours and after a number of years of work and training they have a less than adequate bonsai. Just my opinion though. randy

We call "sneaking a cutting " stealing. If that's your normal behavior (your word, not mine), do you act that way at your friends' homes, a favorite restaurant, a local botanical garden, or (even worse) a garden center? Businesses like the swank office building will use the services of a florist or interiorscaping firm. Witb a little bit of sleuthing, a person could track down the name of that company and, contact them, and ask for the identity of the plant you admire. Then, you can obtain the plant the way that the rest of us do....we buy it. Can't afford all of the plants that you'd like to have? Do without until you can. THAT'S "normal "! As far as the identity of the plant goes, I'm tempted to say that it's one of the new Aglaonema cultivars. If Toni, sees this post, she is a likely candidate to be able to ID the plant....and probably tell you some good mail order options.

hey baby .. lol ... in PBucket ... point at the pic.. copy/paste the HTML.. right here where you type.. and the pic will show up when you hit preview ... or use the box below where you type.. and make us a link to get to your PB acct ... anyway ... we really need to ID each tree specifically ... we heed a pic of the trunk/bark.. and a leaf .. and flower if possible ... exfoliating is one thing .. but to my eye.. it looks like some child spent a lot of time peeling all the bark off that one tree ... is that a possibility??? as for the prunus .. cherry or plum ... gumosis fer sure ... that itself might kill the tree in a DECADE OR TWO ... it is not something to focus on or worry about regarding you or the kids .. i can not flip back to your pix.. since i closed that window ... we should determine if they are structurally sound otherwise ... with 8 acres available .. IMHO.. you need to plant a few replacement trees .. so the in 5 years.. when these need to go ... then you have replacements available ... for sure on the prunus ... you are not going to heal that.. the structure of the other tree is not that great.. but it might only live another 50 years.. lol.. so i am not too worried about that one ... neither tree.. IMHO.. is worth investing money in .. plant some heritage trees.. and watch them grow with your children.. rather than invest significant money in lost causes ... i prefer oaks ... but i dont live in z9 ... and will defer to anyone who has knowledge or experience way down there ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: prunus serrotina comes to mind

The greengage plum produces firm fruit with flesh and skin which remains green even when ripe. If you want the tree to produce a crop of fruit for you, maybe you should research any pruning techniques which need to be used to stablize your prune tree and to help it produce its best yield of fruit each year. Also, prune the trees near it in a manner which will provide your prune tree with the right amounts of light that it needs to successfully produce that good crop of fruit. It certainly is good that pests do not bother the tree and fruit.
