Thanks again, all! The general consensus seems to disagree with my ideas and go with another simple end table and leave the space behind it empty (or place a lamp/large plant). I should mention, the corner is about 4x3.5 feet with where the furniture is now. Unfortunately, I am unable to purchase new seating, otherwise brown would be my last choice, as I'm not a fan. :-) Currently, all of the wood tables/chests in the room are not the same color of wood either. Should I just start over with all new ends tables to make it work? I'd prefer not to purchase TOO much for this space as it is yet another rental.

Well, I was going to suggest the ubiquitous fiddle leaf fern, but looks like you have a cat, and they are toxic to cats. You might Google plants that are non-toxic to cats and see if anything grabs your interest. I think some palms may be ok with cats (and they can grow fairly large), or you might look for a contemporary plant stand and just sit a smaller plant on it -- maybe a giant tropical bromeliad or something along those lines. That said, if your cat is prone to pester plants, it's probably not a good idea to include one in your décor. (Definitely don't put a fake plant in this pretty space.)

It doesn't seem optimum to plant something like ivy that would completely cover and smother the wall, and then move on and start covering nearby things, too. It would be better to plant something that would grow in the cracks but still let the rock faces show. You could plant it at the foreground, too, or plant something low and colorful there. But no one can make suggestions about what to plant unless they know where you live.

Nobody is saying to move the fireplace. Even though the FP doesn't work, it's still a piece draws the eye, and having the couch in front of it looks weird. Can the couch be moved? Can you give us more pictures of the whole room, or a floorplan? (even if it's roughly sketched?) Here's a rough "floorplan" if my photo mockup doesn't make sense. Is there a window over off to the right? Moving your couch in front of it should look fine (unless it blocks a door or something).
