Comments (9)Hi Grace -- Beautiful room -- love the drama of the rich wall color, so awesome for a DR, and the painting definitely draws me in. Could you share some visuals of your "likes"? Do you have a budget in mind for lights and chairs? I think that might get more responses -- while you've kindly provided some very loose boundaries, I still think this room could go about a million different directions. I find one person's "transitional" and "modern" is another's horror show, ha! I like your idea of mimicking the round elements of your table legs, which will also play off the tree trunk shape. So I'll start off without regard to budget or size -- just so there's something for you to react to on the love/hate scale! You'll see my love of shimmer and shine -- esp at night! -- coming into play. To play on the natural element I've included shells since they have an innate elegance yet tend to stay on the informal side. I'm being very bad and answering a Q you didn't ask -- because like Elle I'd love to see a set of table lamps flanking that gorgeous painting! The 2nd lamp draws in the tones of your floor and table colors. Elle and I differ in that I think the current frame may be a fine direction -- the frame blends with the wall but that drives the eye straight to the visual. Although I like her concept for alt-framing. I would probably get your elements in place and then evaluate the frame. Again, so much of this is personal taste!...See MoreHELP... Comments (3)That's a fairly dark gray. I hope there are lots of windows for natural light. If you select satin chrome light fixtures they will be the same value as your walls and blend in to the walls. I would contrast with fixtures in an iron like or blackish bronze finish Designers do not typically recommend lights on ceiling fans. The quality of the light is typically not flattering....See MoreI'm clueless about finishing touches... Help me finish my living room!
Comments (6)What a beautiful living room you have made. The credenza under your TV is particularly gorgeous. Here is what I would consider doing if this were my room- just to give you ideas to play off of for a start. I would begin by finding some blue, patterned throw pillows for the sofa and the arm chair. I like Indian block prints. They are classic and fresh. What I have shown is not exactly bargain, Target/Home Goods, but aside from the Ginori, it's not terribly expensive either. Here are some from John Robshaw: And for the blue arm chair, I thought something like this could be fun: Next I would find an orchid or cyclamen for the table by the blue arm chair. I am partial to cyclamens, so here: I would look for a silver cachepot. Here is a simple one from The Enchanted Home. I like how the silver echoes your side table by the sofa. I would like a much simpler/more modern silver cachepot, this is all I could find right now. Then for the coffee table, I would find a few pretty and interesting coffee table books: Assouline, Phaedon, Taschen, Rizzoli all have great, colorful, conversation sparking titles available. It is very common to put stuff on top of books on coffee tables. That is not my thing. I would rather just see something pretty next to the stack of books. Maybe a bowl or a vase in this Ginori pattern (Orientale in azalea): Lastly the table between the sofa and arm chair could use a lamp perhaps. I would look for something sculptural in crystal. Like this from Horchow: Your room is lovely and will come together more and more over time. Don't rush yourself. Wait to find things that really speak to you, so that you infuse the room with your personality....See MoreHelp! I need ideas on how to finish decorating my living room
