Broken shades and drapes over patio door?
Our living room windows and patio door need some serious help.
The Problems:
1. The shades, while pretty, have plastic parts and have proven to be much less durable than hoped. On most of the shades, the cord has actually gouged a long channel through the plastic header and no longer do their job. They are only three years old, but out of the warranty window, so they've got to go!
2. Our patio door swings inward on the right hand side. Drapes just get in the way, with our four children running in and out. Something is needed for privacy at night.
As you can see, we are in the process of painting all window and door trim white.
I like drapes for warmth. How would I put them in this room, without upsetting the balance? You can see that there is quite a mix: smaller windows flanking the fireplace, a double full light patio door and three larger windows mainly in the back corner of the room.
Would I be crazy to put up bamboo blinds on every window and door? Should I even bother with drapes at all?

Comments (4)I had similar size drapes made for my MBR and used JCP made-to-measure drapes. They not only made the length I wanted, but also the panel width I needed.. You'll need to call your local JCP to see if they still offer the option but, from experience, I've found it's best to walk in and talk to someone face to face. Comments (8)Ooh nice photos, yes I have boring sliders as my DH thought that french doors were less energy efficient. (Silly yes I know) but at least I think I can open the doors in the summer with the screens on for fresh air with sliders. I love all the photos. One quick question does anyone suggest a double rod with drapes and then a sheer underneath or do you think that a curtain will be good enough? One door is in the kitchen, but one is in the master bedroom and we want room darkening somehow. The tricky part is the in swing door. I would do faux roman shades outside mounted on the windows with inside mount roller shades underneath. Then just the shades on each of the patio doors
