Comments (67)alright, thanks. gonna have the moorside set on a diagonal and think more about thresholds. tile guy suggests putting the white marble there to separate the two. but, won't 12 " pieces of white marble with grout between not look good as a threshold? i thought thresholds were supposed to be one strip of a stone (or other material). i can't find images of this anywhere and am having a tough time imagining. uggh....See More12 ft. Comments (4)You are right Annz coming out of the kitchen the soffit of the tray will only be 6" higher. The tray is 1 1/2' tall and will have lighting inside (cove lighting) the inside ceiling height of the coves are 12'. So,,,,, it looks like it is what it is. Underneath the tray/soffit there will be 6" crown moulding with a 7" base to create a two piece crown. I hope all the added details will "bring the ceiling down" a little and not look like it is way to tall of a room. This is a single story ranch style home that we have decided to change some of the spaces now that the kids are in college and for once, while it lasts, "it's all about us". Not for long I'm sure. I would really appreciate some of you sending me pictures of your high ceilings. I will start taking pics of the 1st stages of our remodel and keep you posted. Thanks to all of you who helped with your input!...See MoreIs 16 ft ceilings good for a single story modern house?
Comments (47)I’ve lived in 2 lofts with high ceilings- one at 14’ the other at 15’. Loved them and prefer them to my little small roomed 8’3” ceilings now. The lofts were open spaces, didn’t have issues with cooking smells (just need good exhaust), was able to heat just fine (in NYC and Boston). These were in old buildings- former 1880’s fire house and 1900 factory respectively. Sounds bounce around in a high ceiling space, so it’s good to make sure you have plenty of rugs, soft furnishings and drapes to help muffle sounds. Long drapes are gorgeous against tall windows. Giant walls mean you have excellent space for giant art, tapestries, rugs on the walls…. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Please keep us posted!...See MoreDining Area Chandelier help
Comments (14)I hate that style of fixture posted by Maureen they are totally poor for lighting and IMO so are your kitchen ones . But you now have those so I would probablt choose something maybe closer to the cris cross one beverly posted. IMO lighting needs to light the island and the dining table not the ceilings and for sure in a 15' ceiling that DR light needs to light the table and IMO you do not buy the light until you choose the table it might turn out that alinear fixture is batter choice ....See MoreKaren Lane
