Just had a dental cleaning done......very different!

The first thing I noticed when I got there is that the public washroom is closed. That's the first place I go when I walk in the door; my dentist is an hour away in my home-town :-)

The waiting room is very sparse.....no magazines, toys, etc.

The hygenist uses only a manual scraper, no suction, water spraying, power tools at all. No polishing.

At the end we rinse out with Listerine, and that's it. It was very different, and quiet! Minimal clients at a time.

The dentists are allowed to use the power tools, drills etc but none of the hygenists. My teeth are in good shape which is great, since it's been a year since I've been!

That was the way that it was done. I have wondered for a while about how clean those power tools actually were. The tip of course has been new for quite some time. However it just slips into the connection and there are few methods to really get those connectors really clean without dismantling the whole thing.

Hygienist has been polishing and using suction etc. where I go. I am given a Listerine + peroxide sanitizing rinse beforehand.

During usual after cleaning chat with dentist he said he is going to change to using ozone instead of peroxide. While I was talking to him the hygienist came right in close to where we were with her mask now off her nose, so that I was looking up at her with her nostrils almost over where I was on the seat.

This last time hygienist offered to clean my orthodontic trays next time I was in. I asked if an autoclave would be used, she replied they had something "way more" effective than that.

Following. I just purchased another Miele today. My 2002 Miele is having trouble pumping water out and restarting over and over isn't in my game plan. You may have noticed from other posts that I was debating whether I wanted another Miele. After careful consideration, I decided that another MIELE was the way to go. Especially since they're offering a free 5 yr extended warranty through Nov. 30th. Since someone here recommended the MIELE tabs, I've used 1/2 tab. Previously I used 1 tablespoon of Cascade powder (old formula). Early on a MIELE service tech told me not to believe the suggested amount of detergent and 1 tablespoon was appropriate. I have never had a problem with cleaning nor had any build up on the walls of the machine. I hope that the new MIELE concierge service will install the machine properly and get my salt levels correct. It's my assumption that the initial machine installers were poorly trained and never set things up correctly. My MIELE tabs are cut and stored in an open box under the kitchen sink. I have never had an issue with dampness or diminished cleaning ability.

Oh, Barb, what a sad and sorry tale. Poor little guy. I shudder to think. I think it is SOP to be on antibiotics after a procedure like that, though. I guess it didn't work on whatever bug had him sick. : ( I would die. I had a few tooth abscesses growing up, on my back molars, and the dentist would just slice them open and drain. Wonder why they just remove the tooth on these guys. Certainly, an abscess needs to be taken care of. Abscesses can cause systemic blood poisining too (whatever the correct term is). As far as routine care, it probably is a good idea to wipe the teeth down periodically. My vet recommends gauze and hydrogen peroxide to get the scum off, esp the back teeth. Two of my kitties would probably tolerate that well. Well, my cats get better medical care (and food!) than I do. I hadn't had my own teeth done in about 15 years. Ha, when I had them done this Summer, the hygienist looked like a deer caught in headlights when I answered that question! She was also in shock when my gums/teeth came up at 3's and 2's (very good). And I only had two cavities to be filled. Maybe that doesn't speak, overall, for what gets into my blood from chewing, but my teeth and gums are in good shape from daily care. One of the big reasons I had stopped getting my teeth done, though, was after reading about disease transferance through the dental drills and other tools. And I also remember how our family dentist had died of some weird (blood, as I recall) disease. Even with all the cleaning they do, there can be remnants from other patients stuck on or lodged in the tools. And, as I recall, there is specific difficulty in managing cross-contamination, in dentistry, with respect to prion diseases. I wonder if they're as careful with the instruments for animals as they're learning to be with people. Will have to ask my vet! They did have a new way of cleaning teeth, though, which I really liked! and the tool would seem safer. Forget the name, but it was with a strong water jet. They just blast the gums and teeth, like a power wash. Wouldn't want to take a blue light to that exam room or tech, though, lol.

hmmm, let's see - so far I would change: - the hybrid radiant/induction cooktop to full induction. There really is a difference. I'm afraid I'm going to weare out the induction part since I try so hard to use them over the radiant ones. - the kitchen layout. It wasn't until AFTER the granite was in, did I realize that it would not have been that difficult. - kept the sink order with Galaxy to get the sink I wanted. I was done to the midnight hour and would have had to pay an extra $90 for overnight shipping. I used the sink that my fabricator found - builder grade. It's OK, but it scratches a lot. It replaced a then top-of-the-line Elkay that didn't scratch nearly uas much. I like what I have, but think the extra $$ would have been worth it. - planned!! I didn't plan on doing this - just replace one appliance. That turned into having to add this, that or the other as I moved along the way. - different faucet. I have Kohler (don't remember model), and don't like it at all. It's too expensive to just switch out, but if I can find a taker, I'll make the change. All-in-all, I'm very happy/satisfied. I ended up with some very good new toys, but I just know if I had planned, I would have done some things very differently.

I don't know how I got so many projects already started when I have only been quilting for 1 1/2 years and my goal was to only tackle one at a time.LOL I feel a little weighed down by them, so it's hard to think about a clean slate. I'm hanging the wallhanging I am almost finished with on the blank wall in the living room as a temporary solution, but I would like to start on the piece I have planned for that space. It is applique and I do not have the fabric yet. However, I've purchased fabric for quilts for two daughters for Christmas so I must not think about my living room. Dan, is the POMH applique? It's hard to know how big the squares are, so I didn't know if the images were just the fabric. Lois, the Marimekko quilt is beautiful, so modern looking.

Emb....oh yes, I had a Listerine and peroxide swish beforehand as well. It tasted so good, I asked what kind of Listerine; the yellow is too strong for me. It was the purple bottle, Total. I'm going to look for that next week.

I went last week. Other than the pre rinse (peroxide and distilled water), everything else was normal. Except no waiting room, they fetch you from your car.

Embothrium I was talking about the equipment that holds that buffer and the immediate area. My dentist has one that is movable. Those cracks that allows it to move can hold stuff. Autoclaves take much too long to clean something like your trays. My dentist has two types to clean. One is simply a high pressure stream of air or combination of air and water. The other is similar to a jewelers cleaner where there are combination of sound waves and liquid cleansing stuff.

I saw no difference in the procedures at my cleaning in September, except that the hygienist wore a mask behind her shield. I know the rooms are cleaned between patients and you did have to wait in your car until they were ready for you, but otherwise, everything was the same. No pre-rinse.

I've had my teeth cleaned 3x since the re-opening. (I go every 3-4 months). I did notice on Tuesday when I went, there was no rinsing with the antibiotic when I got there. I had to swish with about 15mls when I got there my first two cleanings, but not this time. I'm not a fan of the "old fashioned" cleaning because my mouth wasn't rinsed out as well as it usually is, and the polish left a grit in my mouth. And we still pay the same amount of money and I don't think the cleaning is as good as it is with the pick.
