Comments (31)"I've been eyeing his books. Primarily I'm interested in recipes. I watch his show ad nauseam when it's on and am not sure the books would contain additional information I would have to know. I think he is an excellent doctor and right on the mark." snookums, we love the recipes. One favorite is black bean "burgers" made with, among other things, mashed sweet potatoes. Another, which we're eating now and we make in a crock pot, is a fantastic mushroom chile. There are so many others. We use mostly the latest book at this point - or, to be technical about it, someone else here does, since I don't cook much :) - I think it's the first book that has a section of non-vegan recipes. That book is intended for people making a gradual transition to his diet/way of eating regimen. "I would love to get addicted to something healthy! After tasting some unsalted sunflower seeds, I picked up some that were roasted and salted in the All Naturals aisle. Wow. No need for so much salt!! Same with the organic granola bars. Sickening sweet and gummy. Ridiculous." We were at an art opening last night, and I was STARVING! We'd arrived late, and much of the food was gone. I took some carrot sticks, broccoli, cauliflower. I then made the mistake of taking some unidentified but interesting looking little something. Turns out it was a macaroon, and it was so sweet that I almost spit it out in front of everyone. I took a little wrapped sandwich but could not abide the taste of the turkey. It was so very, very salty. In fact, I couldn't even eat the wrap because of its own salt. Someone on the Fuhrman website made the very interesting observation that you come to like what you eat. What a seemingly simple observation! If you eat fast food every day, you will like it. If you drink diet soda regularly, you will like it. If you eat large salads with nut-based dressing or plain cooked kale, you will like those things. The key is to force yourself (if necessary) to eat things you don't like for a couple of weeks. After that, hard as it may be to believe, you will like those things, and you won't like the things you used to eat any more....See MoreGarageWorksGuy Pool Build
Comments (59)"* Posted by nosabe: Just curious how the tanning ledge (too short) issue was resolved. Were they able to add the 8-10 inches?" They did tell me at one time what they could do after the fact but I don't recall what the process was. I think it was re-shooting some gunite along with using some flagstone to extend out the ledge. I'm sure it was more $$ then the PB wanted to do for it so the PB made some concessions on equipment which we felt worked out. The Tanning ledge will hold two chase chairs...but it's tight and kinda blocks the stairs with one of the chairs. I know it was only a few inches, but the wife was very clear during all meetings that she wanted the ledge a certain way and size. For her the tanning ledge was the pool....she did not really care how the rest of the pool went. To others in the building stage be sure to get your tape measure out during the build and take measurements of those items or features that are size sensitive. If the steps are to be a certain height or width be sure to measure. We did this and I mentioned it to the PB Cost. Manager and he mentioned it to the gunite sub to shoot it out another 12", the sub failed to do this thus the shorter ledge depth. Things happen during major construction projects, even when your on top of them. The good thing is hopefully you have chosen a builder that steps up to the plate and addresses the issues and offers a way to resolve the matter that is workable for the owner. Now to figure out what what style decking to go with....I hate trying to figure this stuff out. :)...See MoreCraftsman Garage Door Opener
Comments (120)Limited range of your remote controls could be related to radio frequency interference that comes from something in your home or in the surrounding environment. Certain electrical devices can radiate interference; this could be almost anything that is plugged into an electrical outlet. Please keep in mind that the device can be brand new, or can be an item that has been in use for quite a while. Also, the item may continue to function properly as far as you are able to tell. The only problem with the item may be that it has started to broadcast the interference, with no other symptoms noted. Some devices are more likely to generate interference than others. This includes TV cable, cable amplifiers, surge protectors, fluorescent lights, battery charging devices (power tools, golf carts, etc.), anything that utilizes a timer (sprinkler systems, lights, alarm systems, etc.), and a myriad of others. If the problem seems sporadic, we can safely assume that the device responsible for the interference is only being operated during these times. Again, please keep in mind that the age of the device does not determine if it is capable of broadcasting unwanted interference. Any electrical device can be the source of the problem. To isolate potential sources of interference, turn the circuit breaker off to the garage and plug the garage door opener into an extension cord from another room. If the range improves, then the interference is coming from a device in the garage. If no improvement is seen follow the same procedure, this time turning off the circuit breakers to your home, with the exception of the garage and test the remote controls. If improvement is noted, turn the circuit breakers back on, one by one, until the range problem resurfaces. This will allow you to narrow down what room the problem device is in. You will have to go from there to isolate it further, by unplugging and re-plugging the items in that room. If you are unable to determine any source of interference, then the receiver logic board in the overhead unit will need to be replaced....See MoreRaccoons or Opossums & Ponds
Comments (5)Thanks for your input. Absolutely cannot obstruct the view of a pond as it will deter from the beauty and enjoyment it affords. Our intensive studies have proven the the front paws of both Raccoons and Opossums are very sensitive. Both use their "front paws" as feelers and they've got great dexterity. In both cases with these and other "critters" they use their "paws" as a feeler and they lead the way, kind of akin to the way a human works with their hands and also our noses. However, their strength with their "paws" is also an extreme weakness which we have capitalized on. Below is a photo of our product. It's a high impact resin and each section is about 10 to 12 inches long and roughly 2" wide. They "click snap together" kind of like legos. They pointed edges on the sections are extremely effective. If you were to put the slightest pressure on just a couple of these "points" you'd soon learn that it is extremely uncomfortable. It's like a human attempting to walk across a bed of nails, fairly uncomfortable. Raccoons, Opossums and other animals have been purposely baited an an attempt to get them to attempt to engage the strips and navigate across them to get to the food we set out for them. In one case, a bag of marshmallows on top of a plastic trash can turned upside down. We assembled the strips on the perimeter of the trash can, the Raccoons could not get to the marshmallows no matter how they tried. They were filmed with a game camera. The strips are roughly an inch in height. We've installed these on roofs of homes, on the perimeter of gardens in home and every other imaginable area for the past year. In every case, we purposely baited the animal and in every case, they were not able to get to the food, They basically gave up trying. Same premise with these critters in attics, once the females removed their young and began to teach them how to return to the entry point in the soffit, they could not get back in as getting past the strip proved impossible. This is pretty much how I got the idea for ponds. They are unobtrusive and can be set to form around the edge of a pond on the outer perimeter and personally I would also install a series on the edges of any shallow ledges in the pond. Based on what we have seen over the past year plus, the first time a "critter" attempts to navigate over it and gets pricked by the sharp points on the strips, they may try one or two more times and give up. Touching these is quite unpleasant for a human and the sense of touch on these critters is akin to a dogs sense of smell. Make a long story short, documented videos have proven time and time again these things just work. Pretty much how I came up with thought these may be a good tool for owners of ponds who don't want to use chicken wire around their ponds and other contraptions in hopes of keeping the critters at bay and away from ponds and homes while also keeping them alive. Disclaimer: NO 'critters" were harmed or mamed in testing nor worse for wear. They did however "leave hungry" and went else where for their food....See More- 5 years ago
