Twinkle, I wonder if Shaker Beige HC-45 from BenM might be a good chip for you to take a look at. It looks good with BenM's Decorator White and your description of the cabs kind of sounded like Decorator's White to me. I also like Powdered Pebbles from Ellen Kennon - plays well with a lot of other colors. Hard to tell if it's warm or cool or both - it's one of *those* kinds of colors. Two very different beiges/taupes to experiment with. Randita, when you were talking about lilac my first thought was Inspired AF-595 from BenM. I've often wondered why most lilac paint colors look nothing like a real lilac. ??? Inspired does remind me of one of the colors you'd see in a lilac. Gettin' all Mother Nature-y with color reference again. :) I totally agree that there is A LOT to personal color, authentic color. I have been on Jennifer Butler's website eleventy million times. Some day I would LOVE to do something like that for myself. I like the way she talks about color. The inner essence, alignment, authentic self stuff is all right up my ally. This blurb from her site is excellent: "Up to 55% of communication is visual. In order to be seen and heard 100% there must be a congruence between your inner self, your message, and your external presentation." So very fun.

All your colors are cool.. think warm colors are those of the sun.. orange, yellow, red and all variants. Woods are warm. Cool colors are those with blues and greens. The colors in between can go either direction-- like purples can lean cool (more blue) or lean warm (more red). I love all your colors-- but as I recently discovered, you need to try them out in your room. I think this is even more important with the lighter colors and those that are chameleons that change in the light. Also, you'll want to let them dry overnight. It's hard to suggest a color without knowing the room, the size, the function, what other elements (if any) do you need to work around (wood tones, rugs, textiles).. and what kind of feel you are going for. My recommendation would be very different for a casual cottage family room than it would be for an elegant dining room. It would help a lot if you have a photo to share---there are many here who have a great eye for design through color.

Our house is mixed, it's mostly warm on the main level except for two rooms - main bathroom and spare bedroom which are cool tones. It looks fine. We've used the floor as the unifier - we have medium stained hardwood throughout the main level except in the two bathrooms, which are done in a warm porcelain tile with flecks of cool green. To make sure my colours were going to look okay together I sketched out a floor plan of the main level on graph paper and put the colour chips for each room in their respective spots and stood back and looked at it as a whole and I am very happy with how it looks. tess

Thank you so much, Ingrid. I really appreciate your kind words. I think having elements that continue from space to space help to unify an open area. Cabinet hardware in the kitchen that is similar in color to door handles in the family room, for example. Flooring and woodwork that carries throughout. I've probably been a little more careful in editing my colors in the kitchen than in the adjacent spaces, and I think it also helps to have a healthy mix of neutrals. OP, I'd love to see photos of your space if you have any to share.
