still need help with backsplash-granite or tile?
Comments (17)Didn't your inspiration kitchen, or a display you saw that served as your inspiration, have a full granite backsplash? Something in my memory says that's what you'd always planned...or maybe I just imagined your kitchen that way for some reason? If that was your original plan and intent, I see no reason to change. I think it's just personal preference, and although it's not usually my choice, I think the full granite backsplash would be stunning. The cabinets are strong, with a simple elegance...The perfect accompaniment to the fancier and shiny stone. I see the tile as a more 'normal' approach that will detract from the boldness of the granite. In this case, I see less (in number of materials and focal points) as more. I think the general idea of the light fixture works. I think the basic style/shape and overall size of it are OK, but I'm just not sure about the exact fixture. Maybe the color? Maybe the hanging crystals are too much? Maybe just simpler. The center part of it seems to have so much crowded together and so much 'going on.' Anyway, so happy to see your kitchen coming together! The cabinets are beautiful....See Morebacksplash for granite
Comments (1)White would be fine, but grey would be beautiful too. You could choose a lighter grey than your stone. This is French Linen by Fireclay Tile. You absolutely don’t have to use handmade tile, just wanted to show you the glaze. Pretty granite!...See MorePaint color?drywall/backsplash tile/granite counter-log home kitchen
Comments (11)Thanks Patricia...paled grayed green sounds appealing-Ill look at those colors...as for cabinets-yes, theyll be installed directly on the log wall...we're blessed with an amazing cabinetmaker who is skilled in log home cabinet installation....we also have kiln dried logs-so they wont shrink/settle too much. Ill attach a pic (not a great one, but the only I could find at the moment) of the lower furing wall we had originally built for the lowers--then tore out-because that would have made a backsplash stick out several inches-a ledge--it would have looked weird, & would have pushed fridge & cabinets out too..eating up several inches of kitchen space. So, we took out the furing wall-moved the fridge outlet to the corner, literally, of the log wall & drywall (can see it in my 1st pic of original post-midway up the wall) & plumbing was able to come up through the floor instead of the wall-I conceded & instead of a wall switch am doing an air switch in counter for disposal-only thing left was switch for over sink light-which for convenience-I wanted near the sink-so we're doing a shallow mount light switch under the upper cabinet, to right of sink-unconventional I believe-but a good tradeoff in my mind. Our cabinetmaker is making the upper cabinet rails a little longer anyway for lights/outlets under the cabinets-so I think it will work out ok. I may need to always point out to guests where that switch is-but worth it in order to have a normal 4" granite backsplash on the log wall. The tile will cover the open areas on the drywall/range side--including behind the chimney hood. Sooo..thats the plan-its been one of those ongoing challenges that went on for quite some time-& we finally got everyomes input & solved the problem..yay! :) Now for the fun stuff :)...See MoreHow to coordinate brick backsplash with granite countertop
Comments (9)Thanks for MOST of the responses! We have gutted the kitchen and doing a complete remodel. I do not have a Brick backsplash but love the warmth and inviting look it brings. I have seen several pictures on Pinterest with brick and granite together, but no mention of what color the brick and Granite are. When I take my brick samples to Granite shop, I can’t make any look good together. I was hoping others may have done this and could give specific examples of what worked for them. I obviously have no decorating experience! Social Work is my profession. My husband will probably not like a plain color countertop. We will have a 5X9 island that would look better with some detail. We picked Salinas Granite as a top choice for us, but can’t seem to find a brick to pair it with. I also like White Ice Granite. I’m wondering if a simple Quartz would be better?? Any suggestions would be appreciated....See MoreBrittani P
