CFL lamps contain trace amounts of mercury. If you break a bulb it's better to be safe and use care, but you will not need to quarantine that part of your house or pay thousands of dollars for hazmat crews to clean up (as internet rumors have tended to claim). Most of the precaution in the second link is around concern for landfill workers (most people do not dispose of broken CFLs in the correct way) or recycling center workers who may be exposed on a continuous basis to improperly disposed CFLs, e.g. someone who just tosses the broken bulb into their trash can or recycling bin. As for IKEA lights, most are not UL listed. That doesn't mean they are unsafe. UL is an independent testing lab. It's not a "safe" designation (lots of people think it is). IKEA uses a testing lab, just not UL (Underwriter Laboratoriess). UL was formed to reduce insurance claims resulting from electrical devices that were not held to some set of standards. They use ETL (Edison Testing Laboratories). ETL is accepted by all major retailers. UL, ETL, and a third standard CSA are all certified by OSHA as NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory). I'm not an expert, but I did quite a bit of research on this when I was selecting lighting for DD's nursery, and the lighting plan for our new house. IKEA was our forerunner for furniture & lighting (and I happen to be chummy with an IKEA director). More info on UL v. ETL v. CSA (see slide 2) Hope this helps! If you ever need info on the specifics of bulb temperature, ballasting, etc. - I know way more than anyone should. :)

Since it's an apartment and you just moved in, I'm guessing that you don't have anywhere to move this stuff to get it out of the way. How about a sketch of the room with the location of windows and doors shown on it. Then let us know the size of the furniture that you want to keep in the room. Do you want both sofas in the room, and able to watch TV from both of them? Is the room open to the dining room where the white table is? We need to know where to leave a traffic path, and where the doors lead to. If the TV location can't be changed, I don't think you have much choice other than the way you have the 2 sofas now. (Or is it a sofa, chair and love seat? Hard to tell in the picture.) Anything else in the room needs to be on the other side away from the TV. Just not sure what all that is.

To groveraxle: When I said.." there is no other place for piano.." I mean that in our apartment, we don't have any other place to move piano ( den or bedrooms). Only place it is living room. And yes, I will definitely move piano to the other wall, next to the book shelf. See, I have more plans to update the room. I want pain wall some different color, want to strip popcorn ceiling, the bookshelf I want to re make it with more lighter material and not as deep as present and may be add glass doors. Also not sure about carper on the floor, should change it to wood floor? It all project for later but I want to see whole picture for the room and I find it really hard Thanks again for helping =)

I suggest take the island back to the original size and make the opening to the dining room smaller. If the opening is half as big, you'll have room for the TV to go on the new wall you create from the large opening. Then a 3-seat sofa and four swivel chairs can be squared up in a "U" out in the middle of the great room space. I would also eliminate the French doors onto the screened porch. You have so little wall space for anything but a table, and a rug won't work if that door swings into the room. Rug will need to be 36-42" larger than the top of your table and not run into walls, furniture on the walls or doors. Move the French doors to the bedroom at the north of the screened porch. You may need smaller scale than shown here, especially the coffee table.
