Color suggestions for kitchen
We are replacing cabinets in our kitchen to better utilize the space. The sink, island, and countertops, too. The floor will remain (I'll post a photo). My dilemma is - surprise - hubby and I have different color sense. :-). We have a few strong colors in our open plan, small, home: one dark red wall at one end and one green wall at the other, as well as a red door. Sage green couch, brown leather chairs. We also have a pass-through from kitchen to living room.
He wants some color in kitchen, too; we both agree it needs lightening up (currently maple - we had no choice). We want plain full overlay cabinets - no crown molding. I'm thinking some type of off-white (not bright) for uppers and a pale green or gray-green in the same family as our green wall on lowers or the island. He will accept that or similar, as long as the cabinets are not all pale. We haven't chosen our countertops yet, but they will probably be quartz. Half stainless/half white appliances, which we will eventually change to all stainless.
Any suggestions?

3 years agoHere's a concept rendering for a kitchen we're working on currently. Sage green lower and tall cabinets, with white cabinets above. I think this would work nicely if you're not changing the floor.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoIf you home to get some help that really helps we need pics of the current kitchen with that floor you currently have installed. The photos you posted are too small in terms of pixels for anyone to use to render a color scheme. Take the photos so that we get a good look at the floor and the cabinets. This picture will provide you with an example of size.
Include more pics of your home so we get an idea of your color sense.

Comments (4)I agree with your DH. Yellow would be awesome given the other colors and the quality of light you have to work with. The heart pine floors are likely going to be key in deciding which yellow. Technically, a yellow wall color with heart pine floors will shake out to be a monochromatic color scheme. All that means is when you're looking for yellow paint, make sure it harmonizes, coordinates with the floors first - if it does, then move on to see how it plays with the other colors, like the Berry Red and Hamp. Comments (9)momtotwins, Those photos are taken from the EK web site and are not my kitchen (my kitchen is actually red), but I agree the color is great. I do think the BM Nantucket Gray is along the same lines - a toned down, earthy/mossy green. Why not buy a sample and try it on an area? As for accent colors, I'm not sure. Comments (29)I just removed the valances. What do you all think? I'd have to remove the hardware, obviously, or put in new valances of some kind. We will do away with the mini blinds eventually, family room as well, maybe just get a nicer style that looks better and not do valances at all. But it all has to be paid for, and we can't do it all yet, although I love having a goal in mind. The appliances should be replaced as well, although they work just fine so it's hard to buy new just for the look of it. Maybe they'll just give in soon and we don't have the choice! Ha! Comments (22)I tried the browns and I don't care for them. I think that the room doesn't have enough natural light and there is too much wall space for a such dark colors, at least not without more natural light. My kitchen is eat in, but it's own room. I love the color with the cabinets, but with the the rest of the room I feel it's oppressive. Does anyone have any suggestions for a light color, or at least much lighter? 3 years agoYour Versaille flooring pattern really dictates the final appearance of the kitchen and it will forever push it toward a Mediterrean/ Tuscan style direction. I don't think that is your intent.

3 years agoThe reason I suggested Ultracraft Cabinets is because they offer the best wood Thermofoil cabinet doors that are detailed. The line has lots of different finishes that can be applied to a variety of door styles.
