Dump cakes, dump dinners? Just saw an ad
Comments (18)I get where KSWL is coming from (at least I think so). I'm not big on cake mixes either. A good made-from-scratch cake is hard to beat. But there are "dump cake" (I hate that name) type cakes that are not made from mixes. Kind of like an Apple Betty or a fruit crisp. I've made one that is quite good - no cake mix, you make the topping from scratch. Oats are a good addition - as are pecans (as someone mentioned above). Fresh fruit is also used - not canned pie filling. So much better and by using your own recipe instead of a cake mix and canned pie filling, you can control the fat and sugar content (at least somewhat). tina...See MoreThe pound cake I made yesterday, no pics
Comments (11)I have barely half of the second loaf left, and that's only because we haven't been home for two days! We came home last night an hour late to feed the bunnies, who were patiently waiting, or maybe not so patiently, as they were each sitting by their own dish waiting, and didn't move away! They usually come to the door of their house when we come home. Then we were gone all day again today, so none got eaten. Tomorrow will finish it for sure. I may try seedless blackberry jam, or maybe blueberries in it next time. Tami...See MoreHave you ever made cake pops?
Comments (3)Tried the mini donut maker, similar concept, but with no stick. We tried a regular cake mix and used less liquid than called for, almost like batter for thick pancakes. Worked well they were uniform in size when we used a large tablespoon to fill each cavity. Yesterday we tried a chewy brownie mix, and found it just a bit too thick and had to add a tablespoon of liquid. Came out well. Dipped them in cream cheese icing just as they were cooling off. Strange that they do not put any kind of instructions in the boxes from the manufacturer. It would help. Each time I have used it I only make a batch, in my case 7, and store the rest in a tupperware container in the fridge. Quick dessert or snack when you want one NOW. I wonder if you froze your pops for a few minutes maybe ten to fifteen, before adding sticks that they might grab on better, and would be easier to dip or put toppings on them? ps chocolate seems to burn fast so keep an eye on it when cooking in those little machines....See MoreHave you made a Princess Cake?
Comments (53)Final word on the princess cake: You know those amazing friends who tell you the truth? Such a blessing! The jam was the best part. The cake tasted good. The sponge was "biscuity". I'm not sure what that means, because it formed that sponge cakey meringuey crust. I think it densed up as it went along. It was feathery out of the pan, striff the next morning, and biscuity the next night, so I'm thinking "biscuity" must mean dense, whereas real sponge should be a feather. I should have gone with a really nice sponge recipe, instead of the "authentic" Scandinavian one. I'll make her another one sometime......See Morekathyg_in_mi
