Pollyanna has left the building!
Comments (18)Well, as disappointed as I am, it's not too big of a deal. The way I look at it, I WS about 225 containers every year. But then I have to plant them out, and that's the part that gets me, lol. So now I'll have a few less containers to plant - not that three or four containers will matter, and I'm sure I'll find three or four new things to sow, lol, but hey, that's how it goes. I did so want that KMOTGG, though. I saw it in a bouquet once with variegated euphorbia - just those two and nothing else, and it was stunning. Oh well, I will have to live vicariously through PV. I'm sure hers will germinate next year, if for no other reason than we have both been trying the same amount of years, and if I stop, hers will germinate and I will be ticked off that I didn't try just one more year. LOL, I may be doing you a favor, PV! Yours are sure to germinate if I don't sow again... Drippy, good luck with the beach plum. I'd hate for you to have tried so long and succeeded, and then not have the thing live! Morz8, my plan was to keep the alstromeria in a pot. I sell cut flowers at the farmer's market, so since many of my flowers get cut reseeding is kept to a minimum, and it'd be in a pot just in case of root spread also. But, it's a moot point if the darn stuff won't even germinate, lol. Jaynine, thank you for your generous offer, but I don't want you to go through any trouble. Besides, I'm not familiar with the variegated KMOTGG (although I'm sure my next stop is Google, lol) and I think I'd prefer the plain kind. But thanks! Karendee, if you don't keep good records, you don't know what didn't work so it's not as discouraging, lol. Well, good luck to all of us! There's always next year to overcome our nemesis! :) Dee...See MoreWhat's bloomin' now
Comments (11)Tammy, I noticed Vintage listed JOLLY ROGER awhile back. That was the first time I'd ever seen it offered even before I found mine. It wasn't on their list in the past as even having the rose. I'm wondering if they found it at HD or Lowe's too?! LOL It's funny what older roses show up there on occasion. Thanks Inga. Yeah, I do have lots of non-roses. In fact, way too many. I'm digging out a lot of perennials that I've planted over the yrs because some have become too invasive. Jim, GRAND AMORE is in a 16-18" pot. The plant has gotten pretty big. It's about 3ft wide and over 4ft high. I imagine if it were in the ground it'd be even bigger. Lesley I'm lovin' APERITIF. I waited for years for Vintage to finally offer it not as a custom root. It's been kinda slow growing, but I'm sure now it will take off. Mzstitch, DEBORAH MONCRIEF is a decent rose. It's just that, there were two versions, the other being the McGredy rose DEBORAH BEGGS MONCRIEF, which was what I thought I was getting. That rose was an red-orange with yellow reverse. It's one of those Hortico roses that they listed the rose and showed the wrong version. I should've known, since this one is the Williams version, and Hortico intro'd a lot of his roses. The color is similar to another rose I find rather boring, SONIA. And I planted it in my red & yellow bed, so it looks out of place. The plant gets huge, like 4ftx6ft and is pretty thorny. With all the roses I have that need to get in the ground, it just makes sense to get rid of it. Someone in our rose society will enjoy having it I'm sure. Dove-song, DOLORES HOPE is one of the Weeks roses only available from Armstrong Nurseries. I think I got mine way back when they did mail order for a couple of yrs there. Too bad they don't still do so. They have quite a lot of roses only available from them. I know there are a few very nice people here on the forums who have been kind enough to go pick up some of those roses at bare root time, and ship to others across the country. There aren't any Armstrong Nurseries near me. They're all down south....See MoreHelp! Holiday Swap Instructions Needed - Original Thread is Gone!
Comments (13)I know those rules sound crazy but they've been refined over the years of playing this game. I call it the Greed Game because the object of the game is, well, to be greedy! You're supposed to steal. I've played versions of this game many many times and I've found two immutable facts: 1. People LOVE to open a new wrapped gift. The thrill of finding out the unknown is hard to resist. 2. This game is no fun if there is no stealing. 2.a. The corollary to this is that if a few people get to steal while everyone else sits (usually with an "unpopular" gift in their lap) and watches the others having all the fun, it's REALLY not fun. So, my crazy rules solve both of the above. Everyone gets to open a new gift (yay!) and everyone gets a chance to steal (double yay!). Inevitably, if there are some gifts that NO one wants, SOMEONE will still end up with them. BUT at least the playing of the game will be fun! Thanks Sweeby for posting the rules (again!). It's actually nice to have them written up and I'm going to save them for the next time someone asks me for them, as they often do. Work in Progress - have fun!...See MoreFabrication Costs for BB
Comments (6)We got Numerar in beech today! :) So it's worth checking to see---I looked online and it said our store had one in stock, so we headed over. (We live nearby, so the trip wasn't a huge commitment---I'd call ahead if you have a long trek to your store.) Tags still said "temporarily oversold," but I mentioned to the guy that the website said they had one, so he called the warehouse and said "what do you know, we do!" It's now sitting on our cabinets waiting to get cut. So there's hope--and you can check your store's stock online. Exciting because it's basically the last thing we have to do in our kitchen, but we've been waiting for the rainy season to end since we need to Waterlox it outside. Our counter is only 8 square feet so not a great sample, but a local carpenter asked $50 to cut it to size (has to be shaved off a half inch on two sides plus an angle cut, but nothing complicated). I assume with an L, they'd just cut two pieces to butt up against each other, which wouldn't be super complicated. I'd look for a woodworker who will do the work on an hourly basis; if you don't have many cuts other than the sink cutout, it shouldn't take very long. The installation is with brackets that come with the counter; we're doing that ourselves and it sounds very straightforward and not especially time-consuming. Good luck with your counters!...See More- 3 years ago
