Enlarge the planting area and put in a Hoopsii Blue Spruce( great blue color) or Purple fountain beech(great purple color and upright weeping form) about 10-15ft from the corner of the house. Both are great plants and add nice color. If you are looking for something with yellow foliage the the full moon maple, Acer Shirasawanum 'Aureum' will likely burn. The cultivars 'Moonrise' or 'Autumn Moon' would do much better. Other nice yellow plants that will take sun are The Dawn redwood cultivar call 'Goldrush' which will get large, Picea Abies(Norway spruce) Gold Drift which is weeping and Picea Orientalis 'Skylands'. Skylands will burn when small so you may be better off purchasing something at least 4-5' You may also want to consider 'Tiger Eye' Sumac. It is a tough plant but can sucker and spread over time. I would match the cabinetry. The flooring can always be changed at any time and then you are stuck with that color trim. The cabinets will most likely stay in longer than the flooring. Or you could do something different and do white/cream trim. That looks really nice against dark cabinets.

Start with the roof (which looks like it needs to be done). After you've got that installed, you'll know what you are working with. Architectural? Color? If your budget allows, possibly do a metal roof (or at least over the porch); that will drive the follow-on decisions. Then, BEFORE you do anything else, remove the overgrown shrubs in front of the porch to open it up. It looks like you have siding. I'm not a proponent of trying to paint that, and not sure that you want to reside your house... so if you are going to work with the current siding, I'm partial to a dusty blue with some crisp white trim/gutters/garage/porch -- and you can go for a more dramatic hue of blue for the door.
