Paint stripper made my front entrance wood door soft and gummy!

I decided I wanted to strip all the coats of paint off my front door and stain it a natural wood color. When I put the stripper on and started taking off two colors of previous paint and what I am only assuming was a primer ,I got to the original color that matched the inside of the door stained and varnished Pine. when I applied the second coat of stripper to get the last of the paint off, I noticed the wood starting to get gummy and soft. When I use the brush to brush in between the Mounding.,it actually left gauges and left a rough surface because it became so soft. 😩

is this really wood? I thought even if it was veneer it was still wood. I really wanted a stained front door, but may have to go to plan B, which is paint.

my question is: could it be possible this door isn’t wood?
