Call the hospital and ask.

You could send flowers to her home or rehab when she’s out of the hospital. In my opinion that would be better anyway. Getting out of the hospital is a bit of a hassle so less stuff to haul helps.

I had decided that I would send it when she comes home. Good point about everything to deal with when leaving the hospital. I just feel bad that visitors aren't allowed and she can't talk on the phone due to hearing problems.

Sending flowers to a hospital at any time isn't a good idea. Smells and pollen are triggers to that make many ill. Smells heighten the nausea reaction that many medications can cause. Better to send her a warm sweater or a book, something she would find useful.

A card or a personal note is usually appreciated.

A friend of mine received a wonderful gift when she was in the hospital: remote-controlled pillar candles. She could turn off some of the room lights, turn on the candles, and they gave her room a warm, home, cozy, and safe!, feel.

It depends on the flowers you send. If you send orchids that have no fragrance (and many of them do have a fragrance), there is less danger of offending someone. My brother got some nice orchids when he was in the hospital for colon cancer (he was in for two weeks, I think), and the flowers were a cheerful addition, especially since he was there for so long. However, he was on the top floor of Cedars-Sinai in Beverly Hills and had quite nice views, although he could barely get out of bed to see them.

I am allergic to a lot of flowers than end up in floral arrangements, especially Oriental lilies (Asian lilies not so much) and anything in the daisy family. When I was in the hospital, my sister sent a potted arrangement of succulents, which I could then grow in my back yard later. I also got Kevin's orchid to bloom again the following year, with even more flowers. It is a phaleonopsis, and I've not always had such luck with those.

What is really bad is when patients cannot have visitors, as personal visits can do a lot to help someone - more than flowers.

Send a handwritten card for now, she will love that. I know I would.

When my mom was recently in the hospital you could not send her flowers from an outside source...meaning you could from the gift shop. The rehab place she went to also did not accept any flowers, food, and more stuff.

One of the nurses I work with got a call from Sir Pizza last week. They were trying to deliver a pizza to the hospital which is across town. When she hung up she said she thought we weren't supposed to be having deliveries of food. I hadn't read any emails about that but I confess I don't read all of them that come in my inbox since 99% don't apply to me. It would make sense though, since we're in a pandemic. Cases here are skyrocketing, like most other places, sadly.

If you’re going to wait until she’s home, a healthy plant might be a better option than flowers. As for visiting, I understand the hearing issue but can you skype or face time with her? Even if she can’t hear well, a visual connection can really make a difference for someone going through what’s she’s dealing with. Just a thought.....

A family member has been in the hospital for a few months and her birthday was last week. We called the hospital to see if we could send flowers as that is what she was hinting at. I figured it was a no because of covid, but surprisingly was told "yes, absolutely".

Our daughter had a baby yesterday (first grandchild!) and we were able to send flowers. The person told me they leave the bouquet at a spot just outside of the front of the hospital; I'm sure there's someone there to receive it.
