Need help with off centered front door

Front door and window are off center. Contractor says it cannot move more than 7-8 inches ( still will not be centered)

Any ideas on what can be done to make it look not so off center

We are also supposed to have a round column on either side of the gable coming down to the top stoop

oof! That's unfortunate. I don't think there is an inexpensive solution.

First we need to know at what stage the mistake happened. If the mistake is in the plans and you signed off on them, then you probably don't have much recourse. If the mistake in in the build (i.e. they didn't follow the plan) then it will be up to the builder to either make it right or provide appropriate compensation. But they will likely fight that vigorously.

If you decide to disguise the asymmetry, you'll need something door-coloured to fill the rectangle to the left of the door. It would need to go the full height of the door + rectangular window above. Then you'd need to get rid of the arch part of the window. Possibly a decorative metal panel?

Hopefully another Houzzer will have better ideas that me. This is a hard one!

Your contractor should be obligated to construct the home substantially as per the approved plans and specifications. Is there an error in the plans? If so, who made the error?

We completely redid an existing house and had to work w existing front upper window exterior that was in a weird spot. the lower ones couldnt be shifted more centered in room than what we did. you can see the ceiling drop in the pic and I am planning to move it a few inches to the left but not centered bt windows- to allow the table (96" normal length) and I planned to put a buffet (72" long under windows and slightly longer on right side to visualize space better. Opinion on that? Length of space from the left to right (to built in) is 15 1/2ft. but as you can see, if table enlarges, it will just overflow which is fine into open space. what do you think of the chandelier choices- would like to go w 9 light, but think 5 light is better sized for space...opinion on that? The picture is taken from the direction where there is a large island in kitchen area.

Thank you, GreenDesigns... The builder we are talking with got me in touch with a "Designer" from our local building supply store. They will do all the drawings and 3d renderings for us. The designer prefers a roof with gables, the builder said shed roof was easier and much more affordable. I was just looking for extra ideas. I am waiting on a visit from the two of them together here, to come up with a plan. I am hoping I can meet them with a clear vision, but maybe they will have a better plan!

Yes, Mark, I agree. There's very sound advice in this and the other thread by the OP. It likely was not what she wanted to hear, but it was the only sound, professional advice possible. I think the professionals and some others tend to write and post without a lot of adjectives, adverbs and ifs, ands or buts. This sort of direct communication may be surprising, unexpected and/or upsetting to some posters, especially those who may have worked on their own designs and think highly of what they may have created. But with large amounts of time and money involved speaking clearly and directly is only professional and sensible.

Thanks for your comments! We were originally planning to go w/ option B (no wall)....but the more I look at it, the more I dislike it. The off center door certainly isn't ideal, but I think I can live with it since it'll save us several thousand dollars to not have to expand the left side. We dont have an architect or GC. We are doing almost everything ourselves, which is why we are keeping it simple and not bigger than it needs to be. (My husband's family has designed and built many houses) Much thanks! 😊

What about a side light on the left side? Can the top window be widened if you put in a side light?

This is VERY IMPORTANT. What exactly has forced the door to be off center. What did your plans call for? Those are your contract documents and need to be adhered to.
