Bath room matt ideas (new bathroom)

Hello all,

Just had our bathroom redone and I’m not sure what to do about floor mats/rugs. Initially I was thinking a large grey oval rug but now I’m not sure.

I have attached some photos to paint a picture . Many thanks

This isn’t easy. You need something when you come out of the shower. You need something when you come out of the tub.

Anything large will ruin the aesthetic of the space unless you have something especially made, not the usual bath mats that you see.

A gorgeous bathroom, for sure.

I think I would do hotel style mats that you hang to dry with the towels

I have ordinary wall paint in all of my bathrooms with an eggshell finish (between semi-gloss and flat, which appears as a flat finish)...BUT, I also have very good bathroom ventilation. I use the Fantech bathroom exhaust system with a remote in-line fan in the attic. Each bathroom has two exhaust ports, one in the shower, and the other over the tub. I get absolutely no steam build-up in the bathroom, no matter how hot or long the bath or shower. The vanity mirror never fogs up. A properly-sized Fantech system will not only keep your bathroom completely free of steam, but it's very nearly totally silent in operation. Funny, I would never think of NOT using a designer. But that has a lot to do with our particular circumstances. While my husband and I are quite handy (he used to be a project manager for a home builder, and held many construction jobs in his college and post-grad days), what we lack is TIME -- and being a DIY-er requires lots of that. Hence, we have found reliable contractors to handle a lot of tasks in our lives, leaving what little precious time we have beyond our time-devouring careers to things we consider more important. My bath designer is also a kitchen designer (I didn't hire him to do my kitchen because he exceeded my budget by 100%). His bath design has helped optimize the use of our decent-sized but not overly-generous master bath, and will have all the features we want without doing too much violence to the already-existing plumbing and working around a large but inconveniently placed window. More importantly, his company will also serve as our general contractor, so it's basically one-stop shopping for us. While I know we'd save some money by doing it ourselves, we save time and headaches -- a trade-off we're willing to make. [Of course, the jury is out on all of this! We have our contract and our design, but work hasn't started yet. We'll be getting our schedule today.]

Thanks Casey, What is a good oil based primer. I will be using BM paints for the room. I could get their primer. I have only used Zinzer primers up to this point, in my kitchen, and now bathroom. My progress: Last night I went ahead and thinned down some green topped joint compound (drying type, I believe it is called, as opposed to setting type) and rolled it over the Gardz primed walls. After I knifed it off you could barely see the application, just a soft haze. My thought is that I will now apply another thin skim, then when dried, prime for painting. I just don't want these layers to delaminate in the bathroom. This isn't a steamy room because there is no shower and the tub is rarely used. But it is a bathroom none the less.

I would do the larger size tile on the shower walls. If you want to incorporate a pattern you could even do the larger ones then do a herringbone pattern 2/3 up with a smaller size. That is always a nice look that creates interest. I am assuming by half wall you mean the pony wall dividing your toilet from the rest of the space? Id just drywall it and paint it. marble can get busy quickly and since you don't have a lot of wall space in the room already I'd limit the areas of marble. What are you planning for the shower floor?

Suggest a small white, cream or grey mat hung over tub which can be used for either tub or shower. We have the type below and it is super soft, drys quickly and washes really well, this one comes in dark grey as well If intetested https://www.cb2.com/cirrus-white-bath-mat/s571940#modal

You could add a 3x5 patterned washable rug - don’t suggest oval (measure first to see what you think) in white, or cream with grey. Idea below is from Ruggable, but expensive - just providing to show a good look for your bathroom.

One white mat and move it to wherever you want it at the time. Two are a pain and clutter the floor.

Agree that white or a pale gray would coordinate well. You could also take the approach of using an accent, since it will be draped on the tub most of the time -- a bright green or turquoise, say, that could be reflected in your towels too, wherever those hide...

I would do a mat in the same color as your towels, and after your shower hang it in the same place as the towels, or on a robe hook if you have one.
