Question for Okiedawn
Comments (6)Hi Gracie, I really don't think you caused its death by trimming it back. However, vinca minor can be prone to several fungal diseases and it is likely one of them killed it. Do you remember if it suddenly died or if it showed any symptoms like black or brown spots or blotches on the leaves or stems? I don't think there is any reason to not prune it back as needed this year, but be sure to disinfect your pruners or trimmers with a bleach solution (90% water, 10% bleach would be fine) before pruning it. That way, you aren't accidentally transferring any sort of plant disease from something else to it. Vinca grown in pots will always need some pruning, and you may have to move it up to a bigger pot every year, or prune back the roots, to avoid it becoming rootbound. I'd be interested to hear what other forum members have to say about your vinca too. Maybe someone else has experienced that kind of plant death with vinca. Except for fungal diseases, vinca is a pretty tough plant. Dawn...See MoreSad news re Pierre Deux and my bedroom!
Comments (27)I have most likely lost close to $10,000 on a furniture order I placed on custom upholstered furniture and casegoods to furnish an entire room with Pierre Deux items. I put my deposit for the items on my AmEx card. When I received the Bankruptcy notice in the mail, it didn't mention the name, "Pierre Deux." It mentioned a name I didn't recognize in Secaucus, NJ. When intuition told me it could be Pierre Deux, I quickly notified AmEx, who credited my account, but only until they "investigate" what's going on. One of the terms in an incident such as this is that the transaction must have taken place no longer than 60 days prior to the Bankruptcy. In Chapter 7, no customers are reimbursed. Only creditors who made the goods sold by the comnpany declaring Chapter 7 Bankruptcy receive payment, and it will be a fraction of what they're owed. In fact, the legal notice I received regarding the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy stated that I should NOT file a claim. I don't know what will ultimately happen with the money I paid to Pierre Deux through AmEx, but suspect that I will lose it all. Every Pierre Deux store is closed. I don't know how it cannot be considered fraudulent to continue to take orders online, unless the Pierre Deux online "store" is a separate legal entity from the bricks-and-mortar stores. It's infuriating. I was expecting delivery of an entire room of furniture, casegoods and accessories and instead, I received their bankruptcy notice stating that they had debts totaling over $150,000,000 and assets of $10,000,000. Didn't their Chief Financial Officer see the dispararity, or was this a case of putting blinders on and bailing out quickly.? Everything in the stores and in stock will be liquidated to pay the companies who produced the products sold by Pierre Deux.I'm an interior designer and did a great deal of business with Pierre Deux. I went to another, larger furniture provider to purchase replacements for the Pierre Deux furniture I have probably paid for but will never see. Lesson: Be VERY careful before putting a deposit on anything you order. Many businesses are failing. It's truly unfortunate for the employees, unfortunate for the suppliers, and quite a shock for loyal customers....See MoreSo sad to need a new washing machine and have no idea what to get
Comments (55)One of my sisters washes everything in cold water for years. Her old-style (1984) Maytag toploader carried a smutzy odor. She was always loaded-up on dryer sheets and highly-scented detergents. I couldn't convince her to at least use warm because "our t-shirts will shrink" she said. They took the grandmother's machines when granny died, being some years newer. The bro-in-law connected them up and got the hot/cold hoses reversed ... so they were washing (and rinsing) in HOT for several weeks without realizing it. The washer would beep an error code every time they ran it for not getting cold water but they thought the beeping was normal behavior, until they brought it to my attention and I figured out/explained the problem. No mention that anything had shrunk in the interim ... Happenstance came along and now they have a frontloader, given to them by friends (after a catastrophic failure due to bad usage habits), and which I completely disassembled and repaired last February. I gave sister instructions to run hot and/or Sanitary cycles on a regular basis, and the machine's cleaning cycle (which heats to 130°F) monthly. She's not doing any of that. Last time I was there, the machine had slime and mold around the door seal and an odor, developed in 7 months after I had it refurbed to pristine condition. Go figure. Toploader, cold washing, smutz. Frontloader, cold washing, smutz....See MoreSad News Susie 53
Comments (38)Thank you everyone for the kind words for Susie, I wrote her family and told them so many had posted condolences for her. For those that asked about me. I am doing okay, just keep busy here at home. My Izzi crossed the Rainbow Bridge the end of October and that was very hard for me. No I don't plan to get another dog. I have a lady friend and we color, we have the same books and color the same pages and then send pictures of our page and compare them. That is a lot of fun. We have been friends since we were probably 14. I had a birthday in February, the same day as Susie and I am now 87. Thank you for asking. Sue...See MoreNancy RW (zone 7)
