I would have the top of the new windows aligned with the top of the doors. And have the same (or as similar as possible) trim. Even if that lets in a little less light.

The windows in the kitchen are separated enough that they wouldn't impact my decision.

Considering the layout of that room I would keep the new window at the same height as the door next to it. It will keep more with the flow of the room. Mismatching door and window heights that close to each other tend to look like planning 'mistakes' in my opinion. Go as wide as you can on the new window for maximum light and keep the top casing lines the same. Best of luck.

Don’t know where you live and I love big windows, but I would think carefully about the summer heat gain from big windows on a south wall. We increased the size of the windows on our south wall and lost some trees and we have way more heat gain than I would have thought or like. You can cover the new windows and that is our next step, but is that what you want? If this could be an issue for you, maybe there is a way to get some more light with strategically placed smaller windows. Of course you have to think about how the outside will look also.

Thanks, i live in Western Washington heat is not a problem in summer. It's more light that I need in that room. And you are right about the outside. I just replanted out there, It doesn't look like much yet but should look quite nice when it grows in. I have a Chief Joseph lodgepole pine as one of the centerpieces. Teh window should go in in about 4 weeks I am so excited. .

That dark paint is absorbing all the light than comes in the room I would not do a another window, you have lots of light coming in.
