Wall art too small

Waaah, we bought a wall art but realised too late it was too small for our wall. Does it really look bad? What’s the best way to fix? Or should I just get a new one.?

Yep, much too small and hung too high. You could start adding other pieces and create a wall gallery, or you could simply use the piece elsewhere and choose a more proportionately sized piece of art for over the sofa.

Try this out on the floor: A gallery wall using the piece you showed in the first picture, perhaps even placed vertically, the square piece with the round dark and turquoise ring and the three smaller pictures. If you can make this look good in some configuration on the floor, then hang it up and see how you like it over the couch. Perhaps a turquoise pillow or two on the couch to bring the two elements together. Even is you did nothing except to hang your existing piece a few inches higher that might work for now. It's a very nice and well put-together room right now, and I'm sure with time it will only get better.

It’s art, subjective and personal. And we can’t see other angles of the room or what’s on the right side of the picture to get a sense of dimension. Do you enjoy looking at it? That’s all that matters. We can all stage the room based on our own likes/dislikes, or impart decorating rules, but art isn’t meant to just be wall filler. Some like more color, some like more graphic, some like giant sized art, some like gallery walls, some like minimalism, or any combo of these, and on and on and on. I like your Halloween decor. :)

I agree that the rug is much too small as well as dark. The tones are taking away from the distinct table base and the coordinating chair legs. As an admitted minimalist, I'd have no rug there or one that's the same color as the floor but textural. The floors are beautiful. Given the many hard reflective surfaces, I think a mirror would be too much and would prefer a textural art piece. The height can't be greater than what's there now due to the vent. Although I really like the candlestick lamps below, it may look cluttered due to the glass cabinet close to the sideboard.

If I want a chair there I would have to buy one specifically for that space. And I am not so keen on that, plus we do have a lot of seating in that room - it’s not like we need another piece of seating furniture there. I guess that’s why a plant was suggested for that corner. Although, if the perfect chair fell onto my lap I would not be opposed to putting it there just not sure I want to go out and search for and buy the perfect chair for that space. I may replace that tree with one suggested earlier from Crate & Barrell that is lighter and smaller. I just need ideas for art arrangement in the desk/computer monitor area (if any art/prints should go there at all).

Before you purchase something else...get a sense of how big your art should be for this space. Get some blue painters tape and start measuring! Your sofa can use a much larger piece. Check out what is available on Greatbigcanvas.com or Art.com. Great pieces of art at reasonable prices.

Do you have another place where you can hang it? It’s a nice piece.

You possibly could use a wide mat and a frame to give it a bigger presence. Take it to a frame store and and see what they would recommend, it will be pricey.
