Stair Stringers Have Paint Lifting Off
Comments (2)2 things can cause this usually - 1) painting oil over latex without proper priming; 2) not deglossing the old paint (this can be done with a liquid deglosser or by lightly sanding to get rid of the shine). In your case, regardless of what caused it, you should scrape off any loose paint, sand and maybe even prime the entire area with a bonding primer. Then repaint. Your local paint store can recommend a proper primer (not a DIY store)....See MoreStringers along each side of staircase - white or stained?
Comments (9)You could repeat the detail you already have, i.e. the left stringer that is painted the wall color with the contrasting white trim, doing the same with the right side. Then, both stringers would be painted with a contrasting trim. On the right side you would paint the stringer the wall color and paint the quarter round molding in the contrasting color. It might make for an interesting architectural/design detailing. Just one other idea for you to consider....See MoreSheen paint on stringers and risers
Comments (3)Risers take a lot of abuse, and glossier paints are tougher than flat paint. So I'd go as glossy as you are willing to go visually....See MoreWhat should I do with my stair stringer? Paint, Stain, Other?
