Sink advice - What size? 32 x 16' seems huge! Also faucet help.
Comments (27)I guess I have a different take on things - my sink sounds like many folk's 'before' but I love it!! With a kitchen of only 10X11, my design was based on my priority of maximum counter space and cabinet storage. The large double bowl sink was replaced with a 21 X 16 single bowl solid surface matching the counter, and it fits the scale of my room very well. The small size allowed me to flank the sink with a bank of four 18" drawers on one side and a 15" cab with pullouts on the other. Additionally, because the garbage disposer and dishwasher were disposed of and not replaced- I was able to fit in eleven drawers total, including a 30" cab with deep drawers. (not counting under sink space.) Yes, I must wash my dishes by hand, but I am happy to do so to get the extra work and storage space. Have never banged anything on the sink, but there is one large broiler pan that is a little awkward to wash. However, I only use it occasionally - have no regrets!!! I would recommend the obvious - that you figure out what is most important to you!! ps my sink is located in front of the window, but neither it nor the tall pull-out faucet is exactly centered, (cabs on one side are 3" wider) but it looks very nice anyway. - Penny G....See MoreCream cabinets, copper and walnut counters - Thanks GW!
Comments (45)Vermonter_2009, I love the Sapele Mahogany 5" premium plank floors better than my 5" wide Brazilian Cherry on my monitor. I also love the copper counters now that I am looking at the overall kitchen. You truly have a gorgeous kitchen that is not only beautiful but set up so well to cook in. Thank you for sharing. I am truly thinking with my Brazilian Cherry floors now downstairs, I want to go with white kitchen cabinets to keep the kitchen bright and happy. I have not chosen the kitchen floors yet but due to the sliding door that goes out to the back yard that my little dogs go in and out of, I was leaning towards tile but now I am having second doubts and wonder if wood would be nice to match the other room if I put a small carpet in front of the door and sink....See MoreSoapstone counters - which faucet & sink?
Comments (5)You could also consider white fireclay apron front which is classic with soapstone counters. The apron front style is very ergonomic too. If you don't want a fireclay apron front, several soapstone people on this forum installed Blanco Silgranit sinks in the anthracite color, which is a black/charcoal which looks unbelievably awesome with soapstone. Although I do not have soapstone counters, I've just installed our Silgranit anthracite sink, and I am in love with it. Not just the appearance, but its ease of use, no scratching, no chippping, easy cleanability, no water spots, heat resistant to 536 degrees temperature, isn't noisy when dishes and pots land in it (teenagers). We've just come from a stainless steel sink, with its scratches and water spots, and I will never go back to stainless. Sorry to all you stainless sink fans--just MHO! The Blanco silgranit sinks come in other colors besides anthracite, like white, beige, brown and gray. But I like the anthracite color best. As to faucet, there are so many choices! You can stay traditional with a "bridge-type" faucet. If you are still under construction, you can go really traditional with a wall-mount faucet (search this forum for the threads). And there is no reason not to go super modern faucet either. I myself like the ease of a single-handle faucet. I recommend a faucet with spray in the faucet rather than a side spray--they work better, and it is one less hole in your soapstone. There was a long thread recently which I will link where people posted pics of their faucets, and you could look through there to see if something catches your eye. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchens Forum Thread with 100+ posts of faucets...See MoreAdvice Please: How to measure for a kitchen sink on a corner cabinet
Comments (10)I would not spend the money on new counters when you have a dishwasher that cannot be opened while at the sink, or if it is opened, you are trapped by the door. Whenever there is a corner sink, there must be an adjacent cabinet between the sink and the dishwasher. Typically it’s a pull-out trash cabinet. A cabinet between corner sink and dishwasher allows the dishwasher door to open and not trap the person at the sink. It is not a good use of your money to spend it on new counters with that layout. Plus, what is wrong with your current counters?...See MoreRCKsinks Inc.
