top down bottom up shades, how do they work?
Comments (19)You might want to look at Steve's Blinds. I learned of the website long ago here on GW and ordered several TDBU cellular shades. Steve's carries several manufacturers' products but we purchased "Steve's own" brand. I believe they are made by a subsidiary of Hunter Douglas but this may be incorrect. We already have several similar blinds in the Hunter Douglas brand and have found the Steve's product to be comparable in quality. Would definitely order from the company again. I am linking the results of a quick search on the website using made-up dimensions and specifying "Steve's own" brand. Please note that there are many other options available on the website, and you will need to carefully enter the particulars for your windows instead of relying on the numbers I used. There is an up-charge for the TDBU feature as well. The website is kind of junky and confusing but you can call and get some customer service assistance. Comments (4)Oh, my windows aren't as high as yours so that makes a big difference. Cordless is great but not if it means you'll fall out the window while straining to reach the top. My upstairs room has the BU only feature since the window is higher in that room & the top is unreachable and also I couldn't imagine a situation when I would need the top down. The downstairs room needed the TD/BU, for privacy and light control options, but I can reach the top of the window so it isn't a problem. And if I can reach the top then I'm sure all my guests can also. Wasn't there a recent post about power controlled window coverings for high, hard to reach spaces? It was a beautiful room with sky high windows and a lovely fireplace. Realistically, how often will you have to adjust the top? Frequent changes might make the cost of power control worthwhile. Infrequent might make using a pole, and finding a place to store it, tolerable. Or maybe someone else will have a better solution for you....See MoreSolar Shades - Any that are top down - bottom up?
Comments (4)What would be the advantage? IMO solar shades are best when they cover the entire window to control heat and UV rays they give you day time privacy and allow the view . You need to combine them with another window covering if night time privacy is an issue. I usually use drapes. I will also say the darker the shade the better the view and I use 10% almost all the time it does the job and if you go either bronze or charcoal the view is great....See MoreIs there such a thing as top down / bottom up solar window shades?
Comments (6)Simple answer on why I asked it twice - a mistake. I'd like to say "because it's a really good question", but really I wasn't seeing my original post so thought I'd try again. I do appreciate the responses!...See Moreshadylady2u
