Quick help with possible change to layout of uppers
Comments (5)Thanks practigal. I hadn't thought about having the 2 doors attached. I know I've read here that keeping the visual line of the lowers isn't really necessary but it makes sense that he drew it that way for that reason. I'm going slowly insane as we get down to all of these last details so I'm feeling kind of paralyzed by indecision. DH thinks I should just do the bottom drawing with the single 12" cabinet since I'm gaining the space in the 12" cabinet by adding the easy reach corner. We won't have those extra inches if the cabinets dead end in the corner....See MoreHELP! Infamous kitchen pinch point problem - 1930 house/kitchen reno.
Comments (22)The angled corner is noticeable in the plan view., but not so much in the elevation view rendering. However in real life, I think the angled corner will be unattractive and I would not do it. During our kitchen remodel, we cut down the peninsula bar to counter height, but could not move walls or cabinet footprint. At one point of the peninsula, the cabinet and countertop edge are 32” and 31” respectively from one point on a dividing wall at the passage lane from the dining area to the kitchen. It is just one point on the end of the wall and has never been an eyesore or issue. It is a trade off. The larger island is better than the smaller island for scale and your desired use. The island is prettier than the peninsula, if you can fit it. The wall corner is the exterior wall so it can’t be moved or torn down. So after reconsidering the pros and cons, I think the “narrower than ideal“ passage opening, at one point on the wall corner, will not be a big deal for you. The house plans show a window in the area where I thought a pantry should go, so I see that is not an option. What you may want to reconsider is if you can swap the fridge and stove wall. Moving the range hood to the exterior wall would facilitate venting, unless you already have a venting system in your wall I the location as shown....See Moreneed help with kitchen table lighting as well as rest of kitchen
Comments (10)I don’t prefer predominantly black fixtures for this space; imo, it obstructs the line of sight too much. But the lantern option OP mentioned is for sure better than the current wagon wheel fixture. Here is an article about staging with lighting, and lanterns are referenced: https://www.homewithkeki.com/2018/06/home-staging-lighting.html And, btw, OP - although lighting choices are ultimately a matter of personal preference - fyi, copper works with wood, and copper also works with your wood; it could offer you an updated look. I think the lantern/fixture I show above (in my previous post) is out your budget. But there are actually many light fixtures in the world - and the one I posted earlier was but one option. And at least I posted a lighting option... seeing as this was supposedly a post requesting options for replacing a light fixture... If anyone thinks that lighting and light fixtures are not important for staging a home for sale - think again....See MoreNeed help finding a kitchen table to go with my dated kitchen!
Comments (5)Except for the white walls and white Island, that's pretty much my kitchen. I turned the non -kitchen part into a "keeping room". I have two comfortable reading chairs and a bookcase full of cookbooks on the back wall. And I have a small dining table close to the island because there's just the two of us. The reading chairs are upholstered in a gold-colored checked fabric. And I keep a cheerful tablecloth on the table. This helps lighten the mood of that room considerably. You probably shouldn't try to match the wood tone. Nor should you go for painted furniture in there. The cabinetry may be a bit dated, but once you get your decorations in there, it should be a lovely space....See Morehoussaon
