Back splash to go with uba tuba

Looking for a new backsplash to go with uba tuba granite/white cabinets for a kitchen remodel in old bungalow style house-need suggestions

So you want to remove the ubatuba backsplash and do tile from the counter up? Ubatuba is a granite I love but it can have mnay diffent colors in it The one I like looks like looking down on a stream of moss covered rocks and so often use a moss colored glass tile with it I need to see a close up of yours.

No sorry, I have to keep the uba tuba granite and looking to replace the backplash that is currently there. I should have clarified better

uba tuba, sure price is great within the first couple of levels we'd want to stay but... really just want something not too fancy for my house, I also like st celia too but want something w a little more contrast to my cabinets. My cabinets have alot a graining in them and don't want counters too busy either. It makes me a little more hesistant about the verde butterfly b/c it seems to have a more of a larger pattern but like i said hubby seems to like them better and i'm just confused wish i had a magic wand ii just want it to be pretty not regret or want to change something immediatly. All the granite people seem to be trying to steer me away from uba tuba too, i think they burnt out on seeing it so much a few years ago when they installed it so often. Those three I mentioned along with gallio something I did like but im just not crazy about anything else. I'm not a fancy girl, just a country farm girl from georgia so I tend to be attracted to the more plan granites I guess...?? But I love the brick fire and ice look for the backsplash and want it to match it too. thanks for all of your help

Thanks for the suggestions. We are getting closer. We took at look at the additional suggestions (SW Blonde, Ivorie and BM Shelburne Buff HC 28) but they didn't make the cut for what we are looking for. The good news is I think we are down to two (or at least that is all my DW wants to deal with at this point): BM Precious Ivory 185 (a little tan and slightly darker) and BM Soleil AF-330 (a little sunny). The Precious Ivory probably does have a better chance of complementing some of the ubatuba highlights, but I like the 'sunny' part of Soleil, especially since we have little direct light into our kitchen. Oh, and there might be some BM Popcorn Kernel 310 in there but I can't tell if the kids like the color or the name.

Yeah, you really can't pick something that is millions of years old (I think the granite on my island dates back 50 or 60 million years as the probably time of it's formation) and think of it as something to replace every 10 years. The new and exotic may well be the priciest choice and the one you would most quickly tire of. Would you reject a brunette baby because they were the most common or love the individuality of your very own? Uba Tuba was one of the first granites you saw, and there is a lot of it. It is usually one of the base priced selections, but it doesn't mean that it is lesser quality -- just that it is not rare or new and exotic. Some has more green, some has more gold, and some will look even more dark and black. Do pick your slab for this one so you aren't surprised. I have a neighbor who has it with a white kitchen and I loved it. Thought it was black when I first saw it, but it has more character and life. I'm sure it's been used in other homes around here, but that's the one I always think of. It has gotten a bad rap from folks who want the latest and something different or simply something to know they spent a lot more on, but it is a classic for a reason. Unless everyone you know has it and you're tired of seeing it yourself, I wouldn't be concerned. Every slab is unique.

Our Uba Tuba has some dark green veining in it, but it looks black unless bright sunlight is shining directly on it. I think you could pretty much use any color with it. In our kitchen I've used some mustard gold, cobalt blue, sage green, clay red, and black accents with the granite. All look good with Uba Tuba. I simply spray some Pledge on the counters and wipe it down and they shine like glass. If I get a build up, I clean with Windex and start over again with Pledge.

There appears to be a 4" vertical backsplash of uba tuba with tile above it. If redoing the backsplace, take out that 4" vertical as well and tile all the way from counter to under cabinet.

If you're looking to freshen things, an elongated subway in white would work (just be careful against the cabinet white. A pale glass tile as @Patricia Colwell Consulting suggests would also be great. Just get rid of that extra 4" granite piece, please.

she's saying, you already have the 4" Uba up the back, and then tile on top of that.

you should remove both of them and tile down to the granite countertop.

It's either one or the other, not both.

So, are you willing to remove that 4" granite piece? It's not difficult to do

Plenty of how to's online. shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. (remove the other tile first, than the granite piece.)

post a larger pic of the kitchen to get an idea what else is going on w/colors.

Uba can look good w/bronze or sage or creamy tones. colors.

I think a solid white would be to glaring next to it.

maybe a nice frosted glass tile in one of the shades in the granite

It's hard to find many examples that don't use an ivory travertine

You could try and find a soft ivory tile like this one.

You could also remove the tile fix the drywall and paint. For a more informal look.

If you want to add a back splash you might want to remove the 4" backsplash already there. We think a white subway tile could easily work. Here are some designs that might just aid you in figuring out what tile you'd like to put there.

We used a 4x12 glass tile, kind of a gray green color that looks great.
