Does Copper Sink dark finish wear off? & does it go w/ uba tuba?
Comments (13)We bought our kitchen sink from Copper Sinks Online and really liked both the company and their product. IÂm not sure why a competitor would say something like "their patina wears off"? Âsure your sink will change a bit but that would be any copper sink. As posted above, that is the nature or "character" but any light spot will quickly darken. Their sinks are also built like a tank! Way heavier than others we saw. I also agree that cleaning is a breeze and we occasionally wax with the stuff they sent (just a minute or so to apply). Go for copper  you wonÂt be disappointed IMHO. We love ours!...See MoreRethinking Uba Tuba
Comments (12)I LOVE my Uba Tuba! Got it last fall. I looked forever and kept coming back to it. I did select my slabs which made a big difference. One supplier told me that it was so uniform that it all looked alike and therefore he didn't allow slabs to be selected. Well, it does look subtly different slab to slab and that made all the difference, imo. As to being too dark I do not think mine is. I have one large window above my sink and that's it in the kitchen. My cabinets are a medium oak color; walls are a light beige and I chose White Onyx for the backsplash. All of my trim is white. I love when the sunlight hits it and you can really see the depth of the stone. I had lighter countertops previously. I feel that the darker countertops ground the cabinets if that makes sense? As to care it appears my experience has been quite the opposite from lexyeuxbleu. I think Uba Tuba is very forgiving. If anything it hides crumbs left behind by those who do not clean up after themselves! Just last weekend my son & his girlfriend cooked dinner for us. It appeared they had cleaned up well until I touched the countertops! Also, I am on well water. Yes it can show hard water spots by the sink but a little scrub with a brush and its all gone. I am not the immaculate housekeeper that some are. If I wipe it down and follow with a microfiber cloth it looks stunning. That's it. No trouble at all....See MoreUba Tuba
Comments (10)As others have already said, Uba Tuba varies quite widely, depending on where it's from. I saw a counter in one kitchen store that I thought was absolutely gorgeous (lots and lots of gold)- I couldn't believe them when they said it was Uba Tuba. Another blue/black to look for is Butterfly Blue- though I can tell you from personal experience (not good- unfortunately) that it also can vary quite widely from piece to piece....See MoreGranite Installed Today! Comments (21)Thank you ccat and bethpen. Ours was a remodel even though our house wasn't even 6 years old when we did it. The layout was so closed in that even just 2 people (or 1 and a HUGE dog) were cramped in there. So we knocked out an angled peninsula and straightened it, opening up the space. We also had cheap builder's grade white thermofoil cabinets and dark green laminate counters and a crappy shallow stainless sink that I hated. What's funny is that I thought I hated white cabinets. Once I found this forum (but after all our decisions were made) I realized that I LOVE white cabinets, just not OUR white cabinets. Everything we did was very rushed because we had started the renovation because of water damage to our floor and wanted it completed during summer vacation. There are several things I would change if I had it to do over again. This is definitely not my dream kitchen as we were on a pretty tight budget. But because of this forum I do now know what my dream kitchen is and since this is not our forever home by any means (we HATE North Carolina), hopefully some day I'll be better prepared to design the kitchen I really want. I did learn about the siligranit sink here though and am so glad I found it. The slate mosaic was purchased at Home Depot and I installed it myself. DH did all the plumbing (which is why I don't have a prep sink, sigh) and the electrical and I did the painting and backsplash. Everything else was done by a professional. Oh, and my faucet is the Moen Aberdeen and I LOVE it. Thanks again for the compliments. It's not yet listed in the FKB, just haven't gotten around to it and really, nobody's asked me to post it there yet. Even though it's not my dream kitchen, I am happy with it for the time being and it will certainly increase the value of our home when we do try to sell (hopefully in a few years).
