I go grocery shopping once a month. The grocery stores are 50 minutes away. That is one hour & 40 minutes just to get there. My list is always very long but I will not go any more then that. I do stop at Dollar General for milk or bread. I also do lots of baking & cooking so I try to have 2 of everything in stock. Try not to run out of anything. Just a note I hate any kind of shopping.

In normal times about 2x per week on what used to be my days off. Those were the days that I normally cooked more significant meals. One day would be whole foods and the other would include trader joe's. A mainstream grocery store might be a 2nd stop.

I don't use meat and very little fish but I do like fresh veggies at least 2x per week.

As often as I need to :-) Single person with tiny freezer so perishables - meat, fresh veggies, fruit, etc. - get replenished frequently. And yes, my stores are close by as well.

I do a major shop usually every 6-8 weeks to restock staples, paper products, cleaning supplies and pet stuff. And that requires a bit of a drive to the best outlet for those sorts of items. Just did one yesterday....first since March!!.......and I was out of almost everything. Just making do with what I could pick up locally.

I miss my grocery shopping routine. I had a menu plan for each week and shopped on Wednesday, the day the sales overlapped at my store. I could do my weekly shopping in under half an hour. I had everything I needed for the week. When things were on sale, I stocked up the pantry and freezer, so I could potentially go another few to several weeks, needing only to stop in quickly for milk, bread, and lettuce.

DH works from home now and likes to make dinner, so my routine is completely disrupted. He goes weekly, but not always the same day. He doesn’t plan meals Or keep track of the pantry stock so we are always running out to a store for salad, or milk, or juice, or even coffee and other pantry items. And we rarely have the “backup” jar of mayo or whatever on hand. I try to do my part, but it’s hard to keep up!

He’s finally somewhat trained to write on the shopping list — if he reaches for something and we don’t have it, not when it’s running low. After the Coffee Tragedy where we literally had no coffee in the house, I check the supply from time to time. It doesn’t help that our larger pantry is in the basement, and the kitchen one is only 22” wide and holds just what we are currently using.

I thrive on routine. DH has his own, I guess.

I dislike shopping quite intensely now so it’s on line and delivered once a week. It only costs £36 a year, which I think is more than reasonable for all the time and trouble it saves me.

I like to buy fresh vegetables twice a week. I do not buy milk or bread, except for powdered milk, which keeps for a long time. My brother uses it for his coffee, and I will occasionally use it in cooking, but not often enough to buy fresh. I do like to have fresh vegetables, however.

I go to Bristol Farms on Tuesdays for their senior citizen 10% discount and buy fish and sushi when I go, as well as a variety of Brie and other cheeses, if necessary. They have good vegetables also, but I will go to farmers' markets for those generally on the week-end, when necessary. I haven't been to those lately, however.

I don't like grocery shopping these days in L.A. (except for Bristol Farms), and in Cathedral City, I generally go to Gelson's, which is also high-end and safer IMO than other stores. Kevin will go to Ralphs in L.A. or Stater Brothers in CC, but I will not.

I've been baking all of our bread for the past six months (except for the occasional baguette), and so I just have to make sure that I have a good supply of flours. I've stocked up on a lot of dried foods that I like as well, including tomato powder, dried mushrooms, dried bell peppers, cabbage, onion, garlic, etc, some of which I would not otherwise buy, but they do make it easier to shop less often and are easy to store.

Even with dried and frozen vegetables on hand, I want fresh vegetables every day. I have fresh fruit in the yard.

Since March, typically every 2 -3 weeks.

More often lately because of medical appointments - we are "in town" so we shop while we are there anyway.

Normally, we'd go every few days because we like fresh meats/seafood and produce and we don't like to store or freeze anything. Now, we do deliveries and pickups (depends on the store) and we alternate so for any one store it's only one once a week. In any given week, it's either two staggered deliveries or one delivery and one pickup so we still get fresh food every three days or so.

Order online and pick it up on the way home about every 1.5 weeks.

I've had good luck with the shoppers choosing fresh fruits & veges. Makes me happy, and keeps me out of the store.

I eat a lot of salads and enjoy other fresh foods as well, so I do a curbside pickup every week. Sometimes I split my order up between two stores, but mostly it's just one. Two big pluses are the time saved and the lack of exposure to fluorescent lighting (a problem for me), but I do miss picking out my own produce.

I have at least seven grocery stores within five minutes of my house but I do a Thursday run at our mega store and an in and out run at my favorite Aldi which is one minute from my house.

Twice a week: one trip to the supermarket and one to the farmer's market/Trader Joe's, which are next to each other, or Whole Foods. Like others here we also eat a lot of fresh food and rarely freeze anything; there's no need, since so many stores are so close by.

Dh & i usually go every Sunday. Lately, the kittens have been eating a LOT, growing spurt....and I've made special trips for Sheba cat food. ☺ I go to Walmart for that. I usually avoid Walmart. The parking lots are packed, poorly organized, people begging. I feel very dare devilish shopping there. ☺Has a sort of dark-alley feel to the experience.

I don't have a routine. I do go to the store in person, wearing a mask about once a week. I don't buy a lot at once, I avoid getting close to anyone and use self checkouts. One of my sons lives with me and he buys some groceries.

I go once a week. I did not get into the home delivery. About a year ago, before the pandemic, I injured my foot and it was difficult to shop. I did an online order and then we went to pick it up.

I wasn't really happy. Certain things were substituted, and yes they asked, but I like being in the store and substituting things on my own.

In normal times I could go several times a week but in these crazy times I pretty much have been doing once a week on line shopping. I'm pretty well stocked up right now and am hard pressed to do an on line order. I am out of Brown sugar, which upsets me because I did go to the grocery store for some in store items that I couldn't get on line. I knew I was low on brown sugar and wanted to grab a bag while I was there but the shelf was bare. :-((( Won't be doing any baking for a while.

Once a week. If you have to go for fresh produce and milk..you are shopping once a week!! I prefer to get two bags for the week over _____for a month. That would make it a chore. *19 has had NO IMPACT on when/where or how I shop. I have always been the first one in the door at 6AM..I have always preferred to shop when it's not crowded.

Georgysmom, you can easily substitute white sugar & molasses for brown sugar. After leaning that, I seldom buy brown sugar anymore. I just measure out the sugar & squeeze a dollop of molasses into the mixing bowl with the other ingredients. Less messy--no sticky hands from packing the brown sugar and no dried up brown sugar bricks. For light brown sugar, use about 1 tablespoon molasses: 1 cup white sugar.

I have not shopped in a store for probably 2 years or more. My girls shop, usually once a week and they pick up things for me. I also order online.

At least several times a week and to three different stores. The stores are tiny here compared to the big city so I have to go to several just to get the items I want. Fresh Market is closest to what I was accustomed to shopping in. I do think it funny that everyday brands like Stonewall Kitchen and Fischer & Wieser are considered fancy here and only specialty stores carry them. Our selection of yogurt here is pathetic so several times a year I pick up a bunch when traveling.

Pre-Covid we'd go at least every other day, if not daily. We have a good selection of stores all within a ten minute drive, some within walking distance, so why plan ahead? But since March, we're limiting ourselves to about one trip per week. And we make shopping lists. Not as much fun, but it's reality.

I order from Amazon Fresh and have groceries delivered.

Do any of you disinfect your groceries? I always wipe down my frozen and refrigerated foods with a disinfectant wipe before putting them away, and pantry items go on quarantine for a few days (or wiped down if I need them immediately). I've heard it's not really necessary but it doesn't take me long and it makes me feel a little better because I don't know who has been touching my items and how safe they are being.

My DH used to lament my use of the freezer, and things in the refrigerator that had been there more than 4 days (including things like ketchup.) He told me thqt growing up, they always had fresh meat and vegetables and his mother went shopping every day or every other day.

So, one day DMIL and I were talking about cooking for families, and I asked her about that. She said, with 7 children she relied totally on her chest freezer, and had to shop every day or two because they didn’t have much storage space for dry goods and those 5 boys were hungry wolves! I think she was the one who always stretched the milk by mixing a gallon of powdered milk with a gallon of dairy milk. Funny how DH’s perspective was so different lol.

I don't wipe anything down. The chances of transmission that way are low to begin with, so when I come home I just put everything away and wash my hands (which is what I did pre-Covid).

I'm much more concerned about aerosol transmission, which is why we haven't gone out to eat or to do anything much except food and other necessary shopping that can be done quickly. I don't want to linger indoors anywhere.

No. Other than washing any produce before using, which I have always done, I don't feel the need. Nor do any medical or scientific sources support the notion that this is an easy or even efficient pathway to transmission of the virus.

Big grocery shopping about every 2 weeks but do have to stop once a week for a few things, usually run into dollar general for that. I find quicker and easier to get in and out of there. I hate shopping all together!

We do the same as Chi and for the same reasons and with the same sentiment. I also agree with gardengal, touching items is not a likely pathway but it's easy enough to make it not a pathway at all.

For wiping, we use a washcloth dipped in chlorinated water followed by a quick wipe with one dipped in fresh water. It's easy and only takes a moment. Then we have no need to be concerned about washing our hands once groceries are put away. It's really for that as far as I'm concerned. Then we carry on normally.

I agree with bookwoman too in that aerosol transmission is the real concern. Distancing and using masks seem to be the way to go for that.

We shop Costco every 4 - 6 weeks (20 minutes, door to door), and grocers every 7 - 10 days. (Town is 10 minutes, door to door.) DH is the primary in-person shopper, often combining foodstuffs with a trip to CVS, library, barber, etc. It's uncomfortable for me to shop with an N95 (protecting me) plus a surgical mask (protecting others).

I wipe plastic containers and cardboard...and library books.

I found two new-to-us items at Costco yesterday: Store-made spinach cannolloni and General Mills' "Morning Summit" cereal. (We like both.)

I used to LOVE grocery shopping! About once a week, I'd go to Chinatown for most of my produce and some favorite Japanese snack foods. A different day, I'd walk down to the East Village, visit my favorite Halal butcher, a couple of bakeries, stop at the coffee store if I was running low, buy pierogis from a Ukrainian church who made and sold them as a fundraiser, and stop on the walk home to pick up a couple of stuffed artichokes. If I was cooking dinner (which I did maybe three times a week) and suddenly realized I needed an ingredient, there was a big Morton Williams supermarket on my corner. To me, a supermarket was mainly where I went for things like ice cream or milk.

Now, I'm out in the middle of nowhere, and we have to drive 20 minutes just to get to the small town that has a grocery. I go about once a week, spend way more than I used to and end up with lesser quality food. Never thought I'd be missing that Morton Williams! My husband is dealing with some health issues that make it easier to be out here and it's unclear when we'll be able to move back home, so everything seems sort of week to week. I think if it looks like we'll be here much longer, I may try one of those subscription services where they send meal kits.

Depends on the sales and where I'm at in the larder. I live between 2 Meijers farther away and have a small local grocery store closer to home. I am more often hitting the local store, maybe every week to every other week... the Meijers maybe as quick as 2-3 weeks, sometimes more like 4-6 weeks.

My larder and kitchen pantry is hitting the capacity I want to be at for being stocked through the winter, so that shopping will drop off to maybe going out even to the small local store more of a 4-6 week thing by the end of October.

I'm even stocked up on small propane for the camp burners- I usually forget till I almost run out, lol. The local pharmacy happened to have a bunch on clearance for super cheap a couple weeks back :)

It can depend on fresh produce and fresh dairy need too. I just signed up for Misfits and am curious about trying Imperfect Foods... so will see how that goes. And we got a nice new dollar store up on the corner. Around here up on the corner means more like somewhere within a half mile from home, lol.

I'm a prepper- sometimes we can get snowed in for days, or lose power. Often I'm just too busy doing stuff to spend the hours to go do shopping rounds. So I'm always in the habit of keeping ahead all year round. Been shopping like this for years, this isn't a new hoarder or C-19 practice for me.

This year I'm doing extra because I'm still recouping from some illness and injuries and just want to limit my time spent out as much as possible this winter if I can.

And I don't want to depend on Thanksgiving and Christmas sales this year- I'll still probably pick up my pair of turkeys and a Christmas ham if the supply and sales are good. But with some of the supply issues going on I'm trying to skip planning for those as much as I can. If I can do it now, that means I can leave it on the shelf for others because I know darn well they well need it then.

I have all stores within 1 mile, BUT I hate to grocery shop and I mean hate it. Always have.

Now that it’s just me, I don’t have a routine anymore and seldom even cook. Once a week or so, I shop on the grocery stores website and have stuff delivered. I never thought I’d miss having to shop for our groceries or cook, but I do.

living single, you don't really need that much... and living less than 5 minutes on foot from Sprouts... I walk over when I need something.

But I also combine a bike ride, with getting staples.. which are definitely cheaper in other stores.

Also, I prefer to pick out my own produce.

Pre plague I went to some food related store every single day. We have a few wonderful produce markets where I live, fantastic bakeries, though my favorite just closed, sadly, and grocery stores with various specialties, nothing compared to jupidupi's amazing food trek though.

Nowadays we make one or two large weekly orders from either Whole Foods or a local grocery store and I will pop into a bakery, Costco, or a fruit and vegetable market from time to time. I have four young adult sons (16-21) at home now, so there is never too much food on hand.

No wiping down of groceries, lots of hand washing, however.

I too am afraid of being indoors for long, cannot imagine eating in a restaurant again until this is over.

I recently started going inside Trader Joe's again - but only late on a Sunday or Monday when it's fairly empty.

I have to stay isolated as much as possible these days, since I'm caring for my 90 yr old mother.
