IMO wood look tile is already a dated idea so I am not going to help find some. Go with a nice simple porcealin tile no wood look and it will be as close to timelss as possible. I hate tile underfoot it is hard on knees, backs and feet so I have been changing it out for clients and replacing with vinyl tile look or vinyl plank and they all love the change . BTW you need to change your lighting before testing any more samples. All the bulbs need to be LED 4000K(daylight) then youchoose colors.

Thank you for your comments and advice. If we were to do big format tiles, is a white porcelain floor considered a “ classic”? I also saw a 35x35 tile that had very light grey veining. It looked almost pure white until you looked closely. Can I use warmer tones ( creams, taupes, etc) if my floor is white with light grey veining?

Beverly - I saw a white oak wood floor. It looks quite yellow in our home

try changing your light bulbs. if things look too yellow, up your bulbs to 4000K temp. as for the greenish light, do you have fluorescents??

Take a look at Tilebar. they have some really nice porcelain tile that isn't wood-look (which will be completely dated soon) look at the 24x24 or the 30x30 tiles.

We have hurricane windows and doors. They are insulated and low-E. They cast a green tint on everything. I will take a look at our overhead lighting to ensure they are 4000k

@mindynyc 24" x 24" is plenty large enough for most homes. The technical aspects of laying tile that large are significant. You need to have a very level foundation and also an uncoupling layer like Schluter Ditra to help prevent cracking from any movement underneath that large tile. You also need an installer who will use a leveling system to help prevent lippage that is more common with large format layouts. We just put Porcelanosa's "Thassos" marble-look tile in our home. It is a mostly white tile with a subtle marble pattern. Be careful about that brand, since several tiles named "Thassos" are marketed, but only one is rated for flooring. Porcelanosa has other marble-look tile patterns as well. Porcelanosa makes its tile in Spain from white clay out of Turkey, whereas many other manufacturers use gray clay, so it's hard to beat the pure whites of Porcelanosa tile if that would interest you.

Silverlined - thanks for all that information. We have looked at Porcelanosa - will look again. We found a tile in Miami at Stonica that was made in Italy. The product line is called Pure and the tile is “Carrara”. It’s very subtle.

@mindynyc That's a very similar look to what Porcelanosa offers. Pay attention to the level of white. As I mentioned, Porcelanosa starts its process with white clay, and the colors they can provide are brilliant. Also the integrity, breaking strength, and squareness or "rectified" qualities of Porcelanosa tile are at the top of what is offered in the tile industry, so it is very good quality. Their fall sale of 40% off starts soon. I ordered through ProSource and got my cost down to about one-third of what the MSRP was on that tile. It was less expensive for me in the long run than many of the lesser-quality brands that offered no discount. The particular tile I selected wasn't stocked in the USA so had to be shipped from Spain and took about 10 weeks to arrive. They have many other marble-look tiles that are stocked here in the USA.

Crossville is another tile manufacturer with high quality. All of Crossville's tile is manufactured in the USA, as I understand, and they have a high level of quality control. I looked through their showroom several times and just didn't see anything that really appealed to me, but you might find something there that you like. Their prices are high, and they rarely run sales, but again, ProSource would be one of the least expensive suppliers if you were able to order through them.

BTW I have ninyl plank in my well used walkout basement it is now 13 yrs old and still looks like new. I have worked on tile floors for years and beleive me they wreck havoc in both knees and backs just ask anyone in the food service, or nurses about aching baacks and feet at the end of the day.

@mindynyc Porcelanosa's quality is unquestioned. Their semi-annual sales make the product accessible to most people's budgets, and as far as marble-look tile, I spent many days visiting showrooms in the large metro area and kept coming back to Porcelanosa as the finest look. When I learned about their white clay sourcing, I found out why. The Thassos was on display in the showroom, but it was one of their older styles. I liked it because the marble pattern was so subtle. One advantage of ordering a tile that is only stocked in Spain is that you shouldn't be charged any shipping costs. If you select another pattern that your local supplier doesn't have on hand, they might charge you to have it shipped from another warehouse elsewhere in the USA. Be sure to double-check that you are getting porcelain tile that is rated for flooring. Porcelanosa does make some styles in ceramic for walls which doesn't have the strength needed for flooring, and confusingly enough, they sometimes all bear the exact same name. The product numbers will be different, though.

I used Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA grout in Avalanche for my installation, the whitest grout that Mapei offers. Porcelanosa makes a grout, but I don't think it's anything special that you couldn't get here in the USA. Laticrete and Mapei have some really nice grout options with different durability ratings that you might want to investigate. Mapei has whiter grout options than Laticrete if that's the color you need.
