Mini powder room update/refresher with pics
Comments (10)I actually painted one of the doors (to the garage so it was way too heavy for me to tackle) without taking it down first this weekend and was amazed at how great the gray color of the primer looked, especially against the gray walls and white trim. If I wouldn't have already painted a few others black, I would have been tempted to go out and pick up some gray paint to finish them off. Just a thought for the faint of heart who aren't ready to commit to the black....See MoreWhite/white/white kitchen refresh FINISHED
Comments (85)Hi island. Our banquette was built (several years ago) by the same guy who did our cabinets. There is no back on it ... just loose pillows, which we sort of toss around depending on how many people are actually sitting on it. It does have storage. There are sliding doors on the long front of it (this is not easy storage to access but it's for the cookbooks I pull out once a year, etc.) and a "morgue" drawer that comes out from the end (where we keep all the dog leashes, collars, etc. Super handy storage!). I will take some measurements tonight or tomorrow for you, but I recall that the seat is about 19" tall after the cushion is on. I made the cushion extra thick, 4 inches, and raised it up a little because I prefer to sit a little higher at a table. The chairs came with the house and I sort of painted them on a whim. I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint, which was OK, although I'm not sure it was any better than any other kind of paint, other than not having to prime them first. They do seem to be wearing well though. Hope that helps for now. More to follow....See More10yr kitchen refresh
Comments (34)akjr, our range is a Maytag Gemini from 10 years ago. At the time, our DDs were 2 and 3 so I liked the knobs for the stove top away from little hands, even though it decreased the pan area some. We have liked the separate ovens, especially at Thanksgiving and for baking. It has served us well. Knowing it is 10 years old, I just am assuming it will need to be replaced soon. Thanks to everyone for their comments. The desk is further along than this, but I'm working on the top trim for the hutch next to the desk now....See MoreKitchen help.... mini facelift on mini budget
Comments (21)Look at Conestoga Cabinets, available from a couple of on-line sellers. Perhaps they would fit into your budget. That manufacturer has had good reviews, and they are US made. Also, for counters, don't rule out solid surface or even laminate (which I am told - I've no experience - is much improved over the past.) With white shaker cabinets, neutral floor, and that pretty blue tile, you can go with a gray, white, hints of blue - lots of selection. Just have to make sure that the floor, cabinets, and counter are compatible in undertones - like, floor tile often leans pinkish, so the counter needs to be compatible with that. I wouldn't waste space on a separate trash cabinet. Make your new sink one with the drain offset to one side or to the rear, and put a trash pullout under the sink. Unless you are finding the small bit of counter to the right of the fridge useful, I would move the fridge over, enclose it, and put a 24" deep cabinet over it, which will improve access to and allow more storage over the fridge. What else I would change, if you got new cabinets & have a few more dollars, is to move the sink over to the left - at least in front of the closest window, and move the dishwasher over to make room. Get rid of the angled cabinets: use easy-reach corner cabinets upper & lower See if you can run your stove venting through the soffit to the outside.....See MoreKrista D'Alessandro
