Maybe a color close to one of these? Is the brown a true brown? It’s not reading that way on my monitor.

I would keep the current roof colour. My first choice

The current color works perfectly. I would do a warm gray on the shutters if she wants a change, but that brown is a good choice.

These are the colors I copied from the brick. I’m not sure they are an improvement. I really dislike the lighter shade.

When you look at her house, you see a brown house. It could be because of all of the brown shutters and garage doors. Here is another photo showing more of the roof and the brick on a flatter plane. Regretfully, all of the pictures I have were taken on an overcast day.

I would love to see a picture at a bit of a distance on a sunny day. That said, the shutter color seems harsh. I see gray in the brick, as well as pinky browns and light grey or white in the grouting. I would want to see what grays look like next to brick.

Would be good to see the sample of blue grey colour for the shutters. Why change? This house looks really stylish as it is.

Looking at the new pictures, I still think the house is beautifully color coordinated. Blue gray shutters would not be an improvement.

There isn’t a blue-gray color chosen yet. She just wants to change it. The house needs lightening up. The brown is just so brown. DD prefers white/blue/gray palettes. She always has.

Knowing the previous owners (and I do know the previous owners. DD bought from a family friend), I wouldn’t be surprised if they hired a decorator to help with colors.

Totally agree. If it works with the brick, gray is always a nice choice for me. Also, look at roof shingles that don't have variegated color. That can look too busy with the brick. Nice house!

I like gray and I think it would look great with your brick. And there are shingles that are a majority of gray with some brown mixed in. That might be a good fit too

This is a very handsome-looking roof that will work with myriad color schemes.

I tried a gray/blue shutter and it looked bad. This shutter is a gray with a bit of purple/brown. It might be that a photo of the house at a different time of day would work as the colors look totally different in the side sample.

To me her roof is reading gray. We have somewhat similar brick although we do not have the brown in ours and it's a bit lighter. I believe our shingles are weathered wood, which is a grayed brown. I'm not a fan of brown either. I don't think her present roof looks bad, nor do I think it looks too mottled. She could try something in gray tones though.

Such a pretty house. I agree about the current color looking good. If she really wants a change, I think a taupe might be good. Perhaps get a sample of this architectural shingle in weatherwood. https://www.iko.com/na/residential-roofing-shingles/architectural/cambridge/  It reads fairly solid, as Annie recommended, but has a slight variation.

How about removing the shutters?

Shutter colors are easily (relatively) changed and the sky is the limit for color options. Not so with a roof. The color options are limited and very similar from manufacturer to manufacturer. It's a huge color element for a house so you want it to not only work with the brick but be flexible to work with changing whims for the shutters.

Love the house! If it were mine I would go with a lighter, milk chocolate or cafe au lait or even an antique white pulled from the brick or mortar on the shutters and a lighter brown on the roof. And I would use the same tan or chocolate on the trim to set off the lighter roof. (Someone a lot more talented than I am may be able to do a mock up, hint hint, jterrilyn. )

If the house is in Texas, then a lighter color for the roof would be more appropriate - just not too light (or white) to be blinding. An antique white would be nice, or a light gray.

I agree with wanting to lighten the house. Climate really should be taken into account as well. A dark roof will make the attic very hot, if it is in an area with a lot of solar radiation.

Has she considered solar panels?

Lars, she isn’t in Texas, but she is, nevertheless, in the south with all its heat and humidity. We have discussed making sure there is sufficient attic ventilation to help with heat gain in the house and to also prevent damage to the roof.

I don’t know that solar panels, as I know them, would be allowed under the covenants and restrictions in her neighborhood. For her, they would have to go on the front of the house because the rear is too shaded and in the wrong direction. I don’t think the Tesla shingles are commercially viable yet, are they?

ETA: They looked at some sort of solar roofing. The estimate was in excess of $100k.
