deciphering the paint code?

I'm considering BM Caldwell Green and found this info when looking for undertones: "The hexadecimal color code #637168 is a shade of green-cyan. In the RGB color model #637168 is comprised of 38.82% red, 44.31% green and 40.78% blue." Does this mean it will run purple with all that red & blue? Any suggestions of similar colors?

No. The relatively even balance of pigments means that the color is going to be pretty neutral (grayish, not bright), but because there's less red than there is blue or green, it will read as a grayed-out bluish green. Without the red, you would have a much more vivid color.

Sherwin Williams Homburg Gray is similar. BM Kitty Gray is a bit grayer. BM Enchanted Forest is a bit greener.

Because of exactly what Faron describes, I sought out a technology solution. Hand-held devices for scanning color have been around for a long time but they've always been super pricey and often limited in brand. i.e. Pantone has a Capsure but it's only 'loaded' with Pantone colors - doesn't help me. What I found is a device (a colorimeter) under $200 called NODE+Chroma and I use an app with it called PaintPro (from iTunes) Many brands are experiencing the same thing as ACE. There are colors that can no longer be found/made/matched. Scanning with a colorimeter is the best solution I've come up with so far. There are other paint contractors, consultants and designers doing the same thing for all the reasons outlined above. It is a time of major flux and change in paint and color. I don't remember. It didn't seem any more "fly by night" than anyone else's. And the guy from the electrician's was the one who broke the tab off. I pressed him on the idea that it might not be as safe, and he assured me it would be fine. I would never have done that, if left to my own devices; I'd have put the old fixture back and started over. I was crabby about the stupid light anyway, bcs I thought I'd ordered one w/ a different pin system (for which I already had the expensive bulbs), but when we opened the box, it was different. I didn't want to pay for the electrician to come twice, so I decided not to return the fixture but just go ahead. Then when he got to the very end and was putting in the bulbs, he discovered that the tab keeps them from fitting. Once he broke that off, they fit very snugly and everything aligned perfectly. They don't get jiggled much, and as I said, they fit well. I think he and I both assumed that the off-brand bulb was the problem, not the fixture itself. But now that I am finally looking for the replacement bulbs (time to stock up--they haven't burned out, not by a long shot), I see that they all look the same as the photo on the off-brand bulb's box. (and I don't remember if that tab we took off was reflected in the photo on the box or if it was extra--I may see if I can get up there w/ a ladder to check)

As someone who sells Dynsasty/Omega, I have to clear up a few things about the line. :) Unless you are doing one of the very special doors only offered in Omega, you could save at least 10-15% by doing the design in Dynasty, with only a few select ones that are needed to be totally custom, done in Omega. Second, any cabinet door will have adjustable hinges, and WILL need to be adjusted occasionally. Display doors take a lot of abuse, getting tossed into people's vehicles and bumping around, so it's not surprising that that it could need adjusted. All of them will, at some point. Third, the paint finishes offered in Omega do have different sheen levels available. But, I've never found that the paint in either Dynasty or Omega to look "plastic". :) I have a whole kitchen in Pearl, and it's a subtle low sheen. It's pretty large. Could hold at least half a gallon, maybe more. The shape is odd in that is very ovoid, not round at all. As I say that, I realize my photos, don't represent it well, but it's about 2-3 times longer than it is wide and is nearly a foot high, which is why it does not look to me like something spun on a wheel. The color grabbed me too because from a distance it looked like stone, like dirty granite. (Had to handle it and peek inside to realize it was ceramic.) That's why I like the look, but not necessarily $69 worth. Is there a particular angle of photo you'd like me to get to tell you more? I stop by this shop on the way home from work frequently, so I can get more pix.

The RGB data is used to inform a device what proportion of Red/Green/Blue light iis required to create a digital swatch of a colour. It’s not directly useful in explaining how that paint colour appears in real life. We can use other data for that, either CieLAB data or a Munsell notation, seen here.

This info tells us that BM Caldwell Green sits almost at the centre of the Green Hue Family.

It is a mid value, greyed green.

Due to its location we know that some low Chroma (near neutral) colours from this lower bottom right quadrant of the wheel, can shift, or have moments of blue-ishness, in imbalanced light. This is an effect of light quality upon the colour. It doesn’t mean the colour has blue ‘undertones’.

But in daylight/lighting relatively evenly balanced in all lightwaves, it will appear just as its description.

With an LRV (Light Reflectance Value) of 16 out of 100, we know that Caldwell Green absorbs far more of light available to it, than it reflects.
