red oak should i even try to match kitchen to great room?

Hi-I have the red oak floor that you see everywhere (VERY ORANGE) from houses built in the 90's. I am going to replace kitchen floor (which will connect in two places with the red oak. My dilemma is this-1. Do I even dare put a similar red oak down in kitchen and hope for a VERY close match? 2. I really would like wide plank, but would that look strange (even if in a similar color) connecting with the thinner planks? 3. Should I just scrap the idea and go with a Luxury Vinyl or tile so I am not fretting over the match? Thanks!!
