Can anyone identify this cactus??
Comments (10)The plant that got me was Cypress Spurge (Euphorbia cyparissias). There was some growing wild down the road from me, and I broke off a stem to examine the flowers. It was during a leisurely walk, and when the latex dripped on me, I took little notice. Then I woke up the next morning looking as I do in the photo. I called the Poison Control Center and explained it was a Euphorbia. I took antihistamine and used a topical analgesic lotion for the rash over my arms, legs, face, etc. I also did some research on the web. If it were to happen again, I would probably go to the Emergency Room, but waiting several hours to probably be told what I already know did not appeal to me. Funnily, I have dealt with Euphorbia as a houseplant for many years and never had a problem. Christopher...See MoreYet Another Rash...I can't believe it...
Comments (18)Oh you poor thing. I can relate to the red itchy rash. I developed one over two years ago on my elbows and forearms. It then spread to my knees. This itch was so intense that I wanted to keep scratching even though my skin was raw. First I was diagnosed with psoriasis (wrong) - then after waiting 6 months to see a dermatologist I was diagnosed with Dermatitis Herpetiformis. This rash is associated with Celiac Disease. I do not have Celiac Disease. Went through blood tests, endoscopies, colonoscopies, biopsies. All which showed no Celiac and the biopsy came back as folliculitis. Inflammation of the hair follicles. This Dermatologist put me on a pill called Dapsone. This pill was prescirbed years ago to people with Leprosy. Well, I thought I died and went to heaven when I first started taking this med. The rash disappeared - no more itching. However, two years later my bones ache, my joints ache not to mention I am so badly anemic. I feel like I'm 100! I'm told this is all because of the Dapsone. I have asked to see another Dermatologist. Remember I live in Canada. I received the referral in January/08 and my appt. is scheduled for October 28/08. Nothing like waiting 10 months. Don't feel too bad - 1 week is nothing, although it seems like forever when there is discomfort!!...See MoreCan anyone identify this piece or know how i can find out about it

In our family, we have the chest and the mirror, but the ornate mirror surround and two smaller side cabinets are long gone to who knows where. Candles were often placed on top of the side cabinet to illuminate the user in the mirror. It looks to me that all the hardware is original and, as you can see, the drawers are beautifully made. Some have only one of the smaller side cabinets placed off to the side. Some also have "Eastlake" style spoon carving on the drawer fronts and top of the mirror surround. In the case of our pieces, my Grandmother followed the trend of the 1930's and painted that beautiful oak pink followed later on with white. I had it stripped and refinished back to the original "golden oak" in the early 1990's. If I had to guess, this piece was original offered through the Sears catalog. You may be able to determine if that's true with a little research. Comments (8)The best cure for black spot is GROW BLACK SPOT RESISTANT ROSES! Black spot resistant roses are coming out from the rose breeders more and more each year, from: bushs like the Knock Out series, ground covers like the Drift series, floribundas like Poseidon, to even hybrid teas like Pinkerbelle. That's your best bet to grow roses having the most pristine foliage without having to spray them. May I respectfully ask you to examine the underside of your leaves for spider mites. I do not see strong evidence of a black spot infestation in your sample leaf. Black spot, it may be, but usually several black, roundish, fuzzy-edged spots of varying sizes are present on a rose's leaf, often turning the leaf a bright yellow before it drops off. There are several strains of black spot, though, each with its own visual appearance. The most common black spot strain's symptom is as I just described. An individual spot being up to about 3/8" diameter, and adjacent spots do grow into each other making for a much larger 'community,' spot to 3/4" across, but usually not circular in its shape, but irregular. If it is a fungus, looks more like Cercospora leaf spot because the spots are not black, but tan/gray in color, particularly at their centers. However, the difference between the two, cercospora leaf spot and black spot, is a difference without much distinction. Both are harmful rose fungi. Athough in my garden, black spot is more deadly. BS can kill a bush at the worst, and at the least, weaken it until it performs very poorly. Cercospora is a little less deadly. Moses...See Morebpath
