Pothos plants Help!

Not sure what’s happening here. I’m new to this indoor plant thing and I’m really trying to succeed! But there’s something going on with both of my pothos plants and I’m not sure where to find answers or help! It looks like something is eating the leaves but I don’t see anything

Hi, what specific problem are you noticing? It looks like your plant might have some bugs (based on the cuts on the leaves??). If that’s your main concern, I’d recommend cutting off the affected leaves and spraying the plant (stems, leaves, and all) with rubbing alcohol. If it’s a different issue, LMK and I’ll try to help

Yes it’s the holes in the leaves and some of them look like they’ve had the edges chewed off? I was thinking it might be bugs but wasn’t sure exactly what kind or how to treat it? I do have a cat but these are both normally well out of reach from him to be chewing on them. When you say spray with alcohol is it diluted and am I spraying the soil? The entire plant? And how often? Thanks for the help!!

Hi & welcome to Gardenweb! Agreed about the Pothos, looks great! Dracaena = famous for yellow tips, often exacerbated by tap water chemicals. Did you have a pic of that one? The Pilea - not sure what that is, almost looks like sunburn but that seems unlikely for an indoor plant in Canada. What's going on with the leaves that are strangely curled and kind of albino-looking? Do you see any spider webbing on those leaves? Do you have a pic of the whole plant? This watering every 5 days thing, is that when the plants are dry?

Are you sure it had mealy bugs? I don't use pesticide sprays ! -- for mealies, just dab them with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. The chemicals you've used have probably contributed to the plant's demise. You say it's a huge plant, so what I'd do is take some cuttings (about 6" long). Wash them in dish-soapy water that's a comfortable temperature for your hands (not too hot or too cold). Be certain that all the bugs are off of the cuttings, rinse, then put the cuttings in a glass of water. If there's enough life left in them, they will grow fine in water for a LONG time, and if the mother plant dies you'll have the new starts.

Until someone comes along w/ advice, pls. take some cuttings from the healthiest looking part of each plant & place them in cup of water to root just in case you do lose the plants. Sounds like you may have done too much to the plants.

Thinking maybe it would be better to remove an inch or two from the longer root it would help to grow more leaves. ==>> i dont follow.. how pruning the roots will make more leaves ... is it potted in media.. or in water ???? .. else.. how do you know how long the roots are??.. and how many there are ... ken

No, you can just use regular rubbing alcohol put into a spritzer, and you can apply it pretty heavily to make sure bugs are killed off. It won’t harm the plant. Can you post any other pics of the plant?

Also, I would remove that really chewed off leaf completely- looks like it could be harboring a small worm/caterpillar?
