Rose and clemmie conundrum
Comments (1)Can you post a photo or two of the area in question? I am having a difficult time envisioning all this information. I wouldn't plant any clematis in dry shade since they need at least 4 or 5 hours of sun to bloom and hate being dry....See MorePaint Color Conundrum
Comments (20)Yayagal, I'm with you on the white spectrum being to the warm side. Put those pictures now on your other computer into a tiny USB smart drive that can be used anywhere. Then we won't be denied our "fix" while waiting for you to get back to the lake...when will that be, SPRING? OH SIGH.... :) It is surprising what a tiny bit of color can do. And even reflected light onto white (other colors but white especially) can do to a room. I learned that when I painted one wall in a room a nice broken lavender. (Broken color is easier on the eye than a smooth paint coat). I put it on the wall opposite the window, and the other walls and ceiling were white. When the ambient light fell on that light lavender, it bounced it onto the white walls and ceiling, and changed as the day progressed. Awesome. Folks might think that yellow, for instance, is a "warm" color, but not necessarily. It can be an EARTHY yellow, like ochre, or it can be a hard chemical CHROME yellow, which is a brazen color and does not fit with a warm pallette. So finding out the formula for your paint is a good recommendation. Going back to the basics is important if you wish to have a cohesive environment....See MoreNew Home / Alders Conundrum
Comments (6)Alders are omnipresent in my area as well :-) But they are one of the easiest of our native trees to clear and keep out of a cultivated garden. They generally grow pretty fast but without a significant trunk diameter so not too much of a chore for a homeowner with a good chain saw to cut back. But you will have to deal with stump removal. Alders are a pioneer species - they tend to rapidly colonize land that has been cleared or logged but left open/unplanted. Once the area is cleared and replanted with the ornamentals of your choice, reseeding of the alders is far less of an issue - seedlings are easily removed with any other weeds....See MoreHome Office Conundrum!
Comments (25)Bookcases look great but I think there's still too much clutter in them. My general impression of the "before" room was that it looked dark & outdated. You need lighter & brighter window coverings. The furniture looks oppressive & old fashioned. Not sure how easy it is to build a window seat but yes to that if it's possible. Get rid of the couch...maybe a chaise with a small table next to it, cute & modern floor lamp for lighting. Definitely a larger modern ceiling fixture....See Moree s
