Quality of modular home office collections, Parker House, Aspen..
Comments (0)We have a small study (I think about 11'x13') in our new house and DH is determined to have built-in bookcases and desk done to finish the look. I know for the type of design we want, custom work is going to be beyond out budget (budget around $5k-$7k). So looking at some alternatives of quality hardwood modular home office collections online, I came up with these options: 1. Parker House Furniture - Da Vinci Collection (7 piece unit here and we'll add an outside corner piece separately: http://belfortfurniture.com/Item.aspx?ItemID=511270891&ItemNum=DAV-7P) 2. Aspen Home Furniture - They have a lot of different collections. Maybe something like this: http://www.aspenhome.net/default.aspx?tabid=223&pid=568. We want to stick with the peninsula desk design because having a stand-alone desk in that room looks way too crowded (seen it in my neighbor's house and didn't like it). We are open to any other brand that makes high quality configurable home office units, with more intricate design. And for the price we are paying, hopefully we are not going to end up with a bunch of MDF boards like Hooker Furniture uses (they were on my list before I learned about their quality issues). Many thanks for any suggestions! Here is a link that might be useful: Parker House...See MoreMy new home away from home office
Comments (11)I have that exact same desk! I bought it at Pier One in the early 90's. It's been in 3 homes with me, one in the Netherlands. Good score!!!...See MoreWhite house conundrum
Comments (24)What you have is a classic Federal Farmhouse. They are found throughout New England and what was the Connecticut Western Reserve in north eastern Ohio. These homes were painted white with white trim. And all porch rails, etc. were white, too. They also had functional black shutters. Classic black and white. They typically had darker sashes on the windows. Your rendering with black sashes would be appropriate. Originally, the panes would be eight over eight, but your version of two over two makes it look more modern. Your house isn’t boring. It looks authentic. Classic. As has been suggested, look at enhancing the landscape. And study up on this classic style home. Yes, you can modernize it to suit your taste, but I suggest you try and remain true to its historic roots....See MoreFlex Room - Foyer Conundrum
Comments (8)A DUMMY Arcitect gave a new meaning to "flex room" . BULL _ _ _ _!!!#$%%^^& DO THIS, Thank me later This? Below? It's a joke.......an OFFICE? You want to sit down there ? If you do, you build in a nice long desk, where I put the closets. You make it no more than 20 inches deep, and tuck a chair beneath. And you put the closets and what may have been potentially great storage, BACK into the Foyer and crummy by pass closet the arch designed. But I wouldn't. I honestly would not. Why? This is not flex. I have never seen anything as thoughtless. Make yourself an attractive friend entry. Buy a nice bench to suit, it's a great spot in foyer for a guest to remove a wet or muddy shoe. Add a rug you love! Add a lovely console, mirror and lamp. This can be left "on" for a nice evening glow. You will enter mostly from Garage, Build in a bench seat, add hooks for the handy jacket, tote, package set down. A basket for shoes below. It'll be a mere 36 wide, but it beats nothing. THE REST? LOL.......You give yourself a ton of closet/storage. You forget "music rooms, sofa's and anything else. Thank me later. Laziest architect plan I have ever seen. Or stupid labels to the spaces...See MoreElizabeth
