You could be adventurous and try painting stripes on one or two walls and the others a light colour to match the beige of the ceiling. A thought, looks effective

I wouldn't do wallpaper (besides, it's more work than painting the ceiling)

why don't you just hire a painter to come out and paint the ceiling a bright white? Shouldn't cost more than 500. (you'll spend that on wallpaper and install)

or, bring in better lighting.

or, get a removable wall mural.

Right now it looks dull because there really isn't anything interesting in the room.

I like crisp white walls and black accents w/other colors.

Installing some uplighting on top of the built-in would probably make the ceiling look less beige (because better illuminated).

Lots of colors look good with beige. Beige, white and blue is nice (could be navy or baby blue; lots of shades would work).

The toddler bed suggests he's probably 2 to 4 years old.

lauren, at 3 you don't want to do anything too permanent (like wall paper) since he will quickly outgrow it. That's why I mentioned a wall mural. easy to put up and remove. There's so many choices! They even have cool glow-in-the-dark murals to put on a ceiling

you have those great high ceilings. don't forget to bring in a good light fixture. (they have tons of kid lights for ceilings too)

I'd go with the orange and navy theme. Paint the recessed area by the door navy and leave the orange corner. Then pick bedding/accessories that have both colors in them. Or you could go really craze like this!

IMO we need to know his age and if he is over 3 he will have fsvorite colors and IMO those are the colors you use. I agree get the ceiling painted white it will just make everything else so much easier to choose.

Thank you all! Yes, I'm realizing that what in my head was called wallpaper is in fact a mural, so at least I got something right here :) I am liking the blue and orange! I am still intimidated by painting the ceiling but I will I guess think about it ;) maybe I can be convinced!
