I don't care for the gold with your flooring, but I would need to know how the blues were going to tie in to the overall design. If the large, red wall art is in the room why wouldn't you go with a very dark red tone from the art?

Picking colors for your chairs is like picking a shirt. You can't just pick a shirt and wear it with everything you own, it has to work with the slacks or skirt and jacket to make it into a coordinated outfit.

Need a wider shot. Is the blue in the top half of the painting and is it staying?

I think the gold matches the chair style better if the room is not taken in consideration.

I would use the blue and get an area carpet in the living room that has both the reds and the blues, get some pillows with the blues (or if you can dye some pillow covers the same color as the seats.

Try to bring both the reds and blues into both rooms. More red in the kitchen, more blue in the living room.

Get some red flowers as a centerpiece on the dining room table.

No to the blue. The best feature of your space is the red painting. Chair and table are great, so get something that ties together reds, black, brown to tie in with the wood. Don't bring in another color. There's already a lot going on. I couldn't find the right pattern in fabric, but here are some pillows in palettes that would work for you and are dark enough to be child friendly..

Thank you for saying that Brown Dog. I was going to mention there's way too much going on already, which takes away from art and great dining set. Simple is best when you have a couple pieces to showcase. Design Dilemma folks often want to solve a problem with more wall paint features--trims, accent walls, etc.-- instead of trusting that wonderful pieces or art work will better do the job. Also in this case, we don't have a photo of adjoining spaces, which probably also add to the visual busyness. Less is more!

P.S. You asked if some red in the seat fabric would add too much red to the room. No, but something to consider is rethinking the red walls. I think when you wanted to introduce blue, you must be feeling too much red already. It's the walls! You have a wonderful red painting. That's plenty of red. We're all looking at your photos, and seeing way too many blocks of color--red, gray, black, gold floors, brown dining set. That's an overload of colors to process visually. It's usually best in choosing colors for a room or an outfit, that you have a basic color and two other colors that work with the basic. You already have seven: gold, brown, red, black cabinets & door, gray, white cabinets, gold top on island. If you look at your gold seat covering in your first photo, the gold seat cover does actually tie in with the gold floors. Consider repainting the red walls or go a warm white all the way and let the painting and dining set take center stage. Can we see a wider view of adjoining spaces? That has to be taken into account as well so you get a feeling of coherence. You're on the edge of that right now.

Last Comment, I promise. Here's a palette that's perfect: gold, brown, bit of red. Sorry it's a pillow not fabric but you can find fabric all over the internet for what you need:

see how there is also the blue light that reflects the blue of the chairs. I know I am doing something wrong, but this designer gives me hope that bold colors on the walls can work.

If you're changing the red wall to white, then use a black & white or tan cushion. If you're keeping the red wall, stick with a neutral tan. As others have said, the blue doesn't work in your space with the red and black.

Why not give a little nod to the look of the set? and not earth red either.... or is that the red you like?

So many design with neutral, it is hard to picture lots of rich color, but it is another option and the bottom line is that you must love your space. Obviously you like bold color and that is okay.

This is a picture of the kitchen in my last home. Deep green and dark burgundy were not exactly a match to the builders beige and white that everyone else was painting at the time.

My home sold in 3 days when I put it on the market. Several buyers listed the bold color selection as a reason for liking my home over all the other homes that were just beige and white. I know that my color selection wasn't the in thing and that many probably wouldn't like it, but it brought me joy every time I walked into the room.

Just to clarify. The back wall and the door are painted with black board color, which has been absolutely great especially during this pandemic.

And I hope nobody thought I was in distress because I misspelled dyeing 😄.

The blackboard door is wonderful. I didn't realize what that was. What paint color do you have in the adjoining spaces?When posting, it's helpful for Commentors to see what a room opens up to so that the entire space is coherent. I still can't quite picture the kitchen/dining space within the larger open space and what color those walls are.

You have too many different wall colors.

You obviously are not fearful of color and love red.

I would keep the red and black kitchen and extend the red on the other side of the kitchen across the back wall with the sliding glass doors. Do not paint the inside of the window area where you have your mail station.

Next I would pick an area rug for the living room that has the same color red.

The area carpet will define what you do with the other walls and how you pick other colors and put your stamp on the space.

There are thousands of area carpets on the internet - find something that speaks to you and your style. If you limit the area carpet to red and grays you could still bring another solid bold color into the space, but you will need to have it in multiple spaces. The other option is to bring a third or 4th color in the carpet.

Once you pick the area carpet pick one color for the rest of the walls.

Add a throw and some pillows to your sofa.

I would probably place the black art on the red wall and the red art over the sofa.

Once you know the personality and colors of the living room you can pick a fabric for the chairs.

Thanks Jennifer. I might have to create a photoshop mockup, because I am not entirely sure I understand the changes to the wall colors you proposed. Are you suggesting to leave the gray wall as is and paint the wall (with the patio door) red? Or paint them both red?

Keep the red kitchen wall and paint the wall with the patio door red ( the inset window area I would paint with the 2nd wall color. All other walls except the black chalk paint wall and the two red walls would be the 2nd wall color. 2nd wall color to be determined once you have an area carpet and know what direction you are going. Could be white, or light gray, beige or taupe - all depends on the area rug.
