It is still warm here, except the past few days have been fairly pleasant. Not quite soup weather yet though, and we don’t care for cold soups. And now I have to avoid beans due to a recent digestive issue and change in diet (boo!). So my first up will likely be a chicken noodle or similar. Maybe a beef stew, hubby’s favorite.

Way too HOT here in SoCal for soup but can't wait until it isn't. Before this extreme heat hit I made Ina G's Cream of Fresh Tomato Soup with some of our tomato crop. Loved it. Some cold weather favorites are Split Pea with Ham and Potato Cheese (both from the Silver Palate). I've made a Spinach Meatball Minestrone with Cheese Tortellini for our annual Halloween soup party for years. I like to serve 3 different soups that sometimes includes chili. Ina's Cheddar Corn Chowder is another one that's always well received. No party this year but the soup will be here. Soup making is just plain cathartic.

i made White Chicken Chili last week and it was sooooo gooood. I replace one can of white beans with a can of hominy.

Butternut Squash! Also, lasagna soup.

We had a cool front come through last week. I am really wanting fall weather so I made a Chicken & pumpkin corn chowder.

Chili yesterday, Chicken and rice Wednesday and next week is potato cheese. It is fall here, love our soup with good bread of course.

Spaghetti soup and chicken noodle soup - but I've made them several times thru the summer months. and barley /vegt soup. I have the stuff to make that and will soon I hope. those are the only 3 I make. I was sick for a week or so this summer and sure was glad I had several cans of chicken noodle soup in the pantry. about all I could manage was to open the can, add water and heat it up - for a week! I always try to keep a few cans of it on hand.

Funny you should mention it, Rob. I've been tearing out soup recipes and shopped for three different ones yesterday -- corn/chicken, broccoli/cheddar/beer, and cheeseburger soups. Then today it got hot again and soup does not sound so good. I'll have to make at least one of them since that's what I have in the larder. My all time favorite is vegetable/beef/barley. Or maybe sausage/bean.

Potato soup. Pulled out the recipe yesterday and will shop for what I don't have tomorrow. Or rather my DH will, as I'm having a tooth pulled tomorrow.

Although I've always enjoyed having a pot of soup simmering on the stove, I'm thinking about soups I can make in the Instant Pot because I want to become more familiar with that appliance.

I have turkey bones and pork chop bones in the freezer waiting for soup weather - what I will make with them will depend on my mood - mixed bean, mixed vegetable - oh I haven't made my good curried chicken vegetable for a while, probably that with the turkey bones.

I have several butternut squash ripening on the vine, and lots of arugula still, so will probably make recipe of squash, arugula, and white bean soup.

I'm thinking of all of them, yum!

But recently I've done a batch of Matzo ball soup, and a batch of cheddar beer brat soup. Today got chili in the crockpot.

I've been waiting for the cooler weather too for making up stocks. Got a heap of bones and also a small stack of corn cobs to work up.

It's still pretty warm here, but a hint of fall is in the air. I have a cilantro lime chicken rice soup, taco soup, potato soup and Zuppa Toscana I like to make. I have some others bookmarked on Pinterest. I should make one for tonight since it's rainy today.

We still have several months ahead of good weather before cooler temps bring on soups. We have several we make - there's a vintage, easy to find Weight Watchers recipe for vegetable soup that's quite good and low in calories. I also make minestrone, a riff on vegetable soup with herbs added to steer the flavor in an Italian tomato soup direction plus whatever else you have on hand to throw in. Split pea, split pea with ham, cream of broccoli, bean soup.

I find canned soup disgusting and unpalatable. Most have too much salt and the low salt versions seem tasteless.

I disappeared, didn't I? All of these sound so so good. I don't have soup year round for the same reason they don't have pumpkin pie spice year round, feels more special that way :)

I just used up leftovers (overcooked chicken which I was trying to disguise, it worked once I whirred it up in a blender, garlic roasted carrots and french green beans made with a lemon seasoning) in a soup last week because I couldn't bring myself to throw anything away. It was quite tasty! and now it's about to cool down, so it's time!

I wish! Nope. I was working around the house getting projects done. Really old houses require loads of work. I did roller skate last night, so that was fun. Everything hurts today. Sucks getting old.

In the winter, New England clam chowder and Chicken and wild rice are my standard go to soups along with chili and stew.

After the last heat wave where it got up to 111 deg, the last thing I was thinking about was soup. But once the cold rainy weather arrives, I start having soup almost every day for lunch. My favorite is Trader Joe's French onion soup and the different Progresso's canned soups. I occasionally make some that are homemade. One I make is called Cheesy Vegetable soup that I use to get at a restaurant I worked at 50 years ago when I was 18. Maybe not the most healthy soup, but so good on a cold winter's day.

Butternut squash soup, broccoli cheese soup and beef barley. I have never gotten on the pumpkin spice wagon. The only thing I have had that was pumpkin spiced was a pumpkin pie.

Cooked a ham when we were camping and brought the bone home for split pea soup. We alternate between that and ham/navy bean. That's what's for dinner tonight. Looking for a cornbread recipe that uses corn kernels, as I have two cobs left that didn't get eaten last night.

I guess not technically soup but chicken and dumplings have been on my mind.

Glenda, there used to be a soup I loved growing up. Campbell's Scotch Broth , it had lots of carrots and barley and bits of lamb or mutton. Whenever I made it I only used three quarters of the tin of water. It was so good. haha One day my best friend was over for lunch and I made her the Scotch Broth the way I liked it and she said it was the worst thing she ever tasted, I don't think she liked lamb. I think they discontinued making that in Canada about 40 years ago. We have a tinned pea soup here that is pretty good Habitat Pea soup with ham. Other than that I think the only tinned soup I will eat a bowl of is Campbell's tomato soup maybe once a year with a grilled cheese. I do love homemade soups as long as beans are not one of the ingredients.

Tonight I made curried butternut squash soup. Trader Jose has cubed squash in a bag, so that makes it so easy. It was good.

Cherryfizz, Campbell's Scotch Broth was my favorite canned soup way back when! I tried to make it years later, but a) lamb was so expensive, and b) my homemade version wasn't as good. Today I don't care for canned soups at all. I don't know if they've changed or I have.

We call it Stone Soup after a Russian tale - the soldiers came into the village and put a huge kettle of water over the fire in the square. One soldier put in a large stone, tasted the water and said it was delicious but would be better with some meat bones. One of the villagers ran home and got bones from a hidden stash. The soldier then tasted it and said it would be even better with some vegetables. Several ran home and brought precious vegetables and they were added to the pot. Tasted again and it was declared delicious but some salt, pepper and other spices would make it even better. These were retrieved from several houses and the taster said it was the best soup ever but would be even better with some barley. Barley was added and it was cooked for several hours and then all were invited to share the Stone Soup. Everyone exclaimed that it was the most delicious soup ever and it was made with just a stone! Our stone soup is made of leftovers stashed in the freezer. Pot roast, bones of any type with fresh veggies including lots of onions, carrots and celery and cooked and tasted adding a little of this and a little of that till it is perfect.

Tonight's was second night (always better) and included frozen beef pot roast and gravy, chicken bones, gravy from the fridge along with some left over French Dip, more carrots, onions and celery and even some leftover tortellini. Fresh herbs from the garden and skimmed to take off extra fat and clarify the broth. It was delicious - son calls me 'the soup queen!'

I'm thinking about beef stew. But there is a ham bone in the freezer, so that leads me to think about sorta' like soup-- Red Beans & Rice. In the refrigerator, there are some peppers that need to be used so soup is going to be something new for me to make...stuffed pepper soup.

I don't care for most canned soups with one known exception. Campbell's Chunky Grilled Chicken & Sausage Gumbo as well as the generic versions of same soup from Wal-Mart (Great Value) and Aldi.

We enjoyed a couple different cucumber soups in August and of course Gazpacho!! I love that all but the V8 comes out of my garden! Now with it feeling like November suddenly I was thinking about Reuben soup. Could it really be time for hot soup. That makes me sad.

My kids loved when I made Stone Soup. All of them had to pick a stone for it! And they loved to eat it.

A couple weeks ago I bought a bone-in ham. I had a great meal, now am excited to have ham in the freezer.

I love making Zuppa Toscana soup with ham, sausage and potato and grabbing some kale out of the landlord's garden and having it in the freezer.

I also love brocccoli and/or cauliflower soup. Another favourite is 'everything' soup, use up wilted, withering, old stuff in the frig.

I make cold vichyssoise, but I make it without cream. I don't put cream in any soup except for clam chowder.

I am thinking about seafood gumbo, but then I am always thinking about gumbo. My favorite soups have seafood in them. Crab asparagus soup is one of my favorites.

I ended up making a stuffed cabbage soup because I had a head of cabbage languishing in the fridge. Was so-so, IMO. My son likes it more than I do.

Still have the green peppers that need using. Think I'll make a stir fry with some of them & freeze the rest.

I remember the Scotch Broth with fondness. I think to make it taste the way it is remembered it has to be made with older lamb that is not quite mutton. It makes no sense for me to make soup or chili because I do not like eating leftovers of any kind. I can add seasoning to canned stuff to change the flavor. Having a naturally low sodium blood count I do not need to worry about sodium other than eating food with enough of it not to become ill or pass out as I have seen too many do.

This crock pot Mexican Chicken Soup is popular in my house and freezes well. I can eat soup in any weather.

I don't think I've made potato leek soup in 100 years...and always loved it.

I also haven't made cream of mushroom soup in a long time...so delish.

This time of year, I usually make a batch of mulligatawny.

And years ago, I used to make a cream of broccoli soup with american cheese that was wonderful.

And a perennial favorite is a soup I make with tortellini, tomatoes and spinach.

When we bought the 1/2 bushel of roma tomatoes every year, I made sure to make Ina's Roasted Tomato Soup. Definitely a favourite.

Jasdip, I've made that one from Ina...very good! She has a few tasty tomato soup recipes.

Tonight I made shrimp 🦐 chowder.

Today I made Zuppa Toscana. I had not made it in a long time. Tastes pretty good.

Thanks everyone for all the great ideas. What I like about soup is that you can make it earlier in the day, let it cool or just keep warm on the stove, clean up the kitchen and then you have less to deal with at dinner time, just eat and enjoy.

Years ago are used to make an African beef stew which included peanut butter. I know this would not appeal to everyone. I believe it’s called groundnut stew.

I find that "less to deal with at dinner time" is becoming my watchword :-) Fortunately, it is just me that I have to worry about and cooking a big meal late in the day is no longer anything I look forward to on a routine basis. In fact, eating a big meal late in the day is something I've grown away from....I'm seldom that hungry. Soups, stews, salads and sandwiches - and breakfast - are what I most often resort to for my evening meal. Or appetizers :-)

Groundnut stew sounds great to me! I'm going to look for a recipe.

Corn season is almost over here so will make a freezer batch of corn chowder this week. I freeze it in portions for two and don't add the dairy until it is thawed and being reheated.

Today for dinner I made a Weight Watchers soup recipe - Thai chicken and coconut. It is really delicious, one of my favorites. This time I used just the right amount of Thai curry paste so it has a wonderful zing without being overpowering.
