do you think about your garden all day??m
Comments (17)LOL!! Me too Ricky! I just "DO" my garden all day long. Kate, when I was getting spinal injections and I had to remain perfectly calm and still even tho the injections burned and hurt, I would take a deep breath and recite flowers/plants alphabetically until they were done...the pain management Doc was alarmed the first time to hear me whispering, then he finally got used to me rattling off plant names. They actually kept it in my chart where I left off last injection visit. They would tell me prior to the shot...start with dischidia!! Right now I wake thinking about my tomato seedlings daily...and dream about 'em too! When something consumes you, just be glad it's gardening!...See MoreWhat do you do about sick birds in yard?
Comments (11)As someone that has dealt with 2 rounds of this, let me say I am sorry, I know how hard it is to watch. I have had to deal with dozens of finches and siskins die. I took a sampling of them to a rehabber who in turn sent them to the State for reports. I did work with the rehabber and try to treat some of them with no luck. Because it is warm and natural food is plentiful I would defiantly take down all the feeders. If it were the dead of winter (when my 2 bouts have happened) I would give different advise. Hopefully this will slow it down. They will still congregate on natural foods. One good thing is that this is happening early enough that it should run it's course before supplemental feeding is really needed. Keeping spillage under the feeders clean is also very important. As hard as it sounds this happens and there's not much we can do. It will pass and the spices will not be wiped out for good though your numbers may be down for a year or two. In the winter I went to covering the ground of each feeding station with fresh snow and cleaning each feeder daily. I don't know that it did any good. I think it just runs it's course. At this time of year I think not feeding is the best option....See MoreWhat do people think about this tile job?
Comments (8)The installers did not use a leveling system, just regular tile spacers. I'm not as concerned about the lippage (therefore I didn't choose photos that featured it), because 1) it isn't much worse than I expected given a brick pattern with 12x24" tiles 2) doesn't seem realistic to fix it (please correct me if I'm wrong) However the color inconsistency seems fixable? Perhaps I will ask the contractor to color it. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether there is enough grout in the joints. I assumed the edges of the grout should be flush with rectified tile, since there is no bevel....See MoreWhat do you think of my layout? All help appreciated!
Comments (84)llucy - Thank you for your kind support!! I felt so much better after reading your post. You are right, having to sacrifice the nook and eat at an island is never something I wanted to do. It would feel like a sacrifice, but if I was getting something otherwise fabulous in return, I would at least consider it. If I could snap my fingers and have the perfect solution, it would be to still have a kitchen table and any island seating would just be 1 or 2 spots for perching, not for dining. So, the U shape really does start to make sense. Thank you for the link to the Houzz ideabook! That really helped me and actually got a few new ideas flowing in my mind. The pantry doors will be changed, so that section can be made to look very different. sena01 - Thank you again for more options! It is so helpful to see things in 3d. The one with the bar table actually looked good - I just can't see needing the duplication of another table. But, it visually made the most sense probably. I'm going to play around with your idea of moving the dining nook! It's something else that I never considered and at first the new kitchen looked quite small, but then I saw the section against the dining room wall, so that might give me enough storage. Thank you again! tracie.erin - Thank you for drawing out this layout idea. It's actually fairly close to an idea proposed by a KD I met with. At the time, DH was not open to losing the U shape, so he kinda nixed it, but I'm going to explore this idea further. I like that I can still keep the kitchen table as the more I think about it, the more that seems important to me. Thanks everyone for your continuing advice and ideas! I can't even tell you how much this is helping me. DH is very busy and doesn't want to be too heavily involved in the details, so it's so valuable to me to get to talk things out with all of you! I'm having a GC over on Monday to discuss. I will report back once I have a better sense of my construction limitations....See Moresushipup1
