Would you put an area rug or coffee table in this room?
Comments (7)Honestly, I think part of the issue is the âÂÂline-em-upâ way the seating is arranged. It leaves a huge blank space in the middle of the room. Would you consider putting the loveseat in front of the window, and the couch at a right angle to it? I realize that they canâÂÂt be abutting one another, because of the reclining. But I think you can move the couch down toward the loveseat a bit. That is also why you donâÂÂt want a coffee table. I know from personal experience that it is always in the way with a couch with recliners. I would move the black cabinet to the wall space to the right of the curtains where the chair is now, if it will fit. Then rehang the two pictures centered between the drapery and the corner of the wall, not between the drapery and the light switch. A lamp on there would be nice. I would find a larger round table to sit in the corner between the two reclining seating pieces. Another lamp on there. The small chair could go to the left of the tv, with a small table beside it, near the stairs, another lamp there. If the chair goes near the tv, then I would use the floor lamp in the corner nearest the dining room, to the right of the couch, and another small table there. I think once you move things around and have the furniture out into the space a bit more, you will find you donâÂÂt need anything there, and will leave the open space for traffic and kids....See MoreIs my family room missing something?
Comments (68)I suggest getting a caramel colored velvet pillows that tie in the color of you kitchen cabinets which would be a lovely contrast to your sofa. maybe another one that is neutral will lots of texture and possibly change out the rug to something more interesting. pillows and curtains: I think more substantial fabric for the curtains would help as well....See MoreWhat's missing in my living room? Comments (21)Someone said: I believe the Houzz experts (and I am NOT one!) suggest the TV be 2/3 the width of the TV cabinet. No no no no no. The TV cabinet needs to be at least 25% wider than the TV. Wider is always better. There is no minimum size for the TV. Do not hang that guitar between the windows. Do not hang anything between the windows. Your curtains are perfect. Hang the guitar on the wall just left of the TV, get some art for over the sofa, and add just a touch more red to echo the arc lamp (which is tres cool, BTW). You've done a great job so far. You've got this....See MoreIs something missing here in my living room??
Comments (72)Wow, Lucas, what an amazing difference! Your home looks so inviting and functional - the perfect combo! I do love the dining alcove and I predict you will find yourself using It for much more than dining with its location next to that spectacular window wall. Hang some art on those walls and it’s perfection! Thank you Lucas, for inviting us into your home and considering all of the varied advice and opinions and being so gracious about showing us what worked and especially for sharing your adjustments you made based on the advice.
