California is still too closed down to do much of anything. Still no gatherings, even with family. I am hoping to do a trail ride. Hopefully a longish one. I'll be riding Sunday so if I can get a decent ride in on Monday I should have the miles I need to get my next virtual endurance milestone. The fires and the air quality put me behind where I want to be.

We are celebrating today. We are up at our camp. Our granddaughters have been with us since Thursday . Friends, their granddaughter, and my BIL are coming today. We are having the usual picnic food. The local fire department is having activities all weekend. Tonight we are going to the fireworks and then back to camp for a campfire . The remainder of the weekend we are planning on swimming, fishing and tubing down the river.

Working that night. Fun times.

None of the summer holidays have ever been a thing with me anyway. Too hot to have any fun.

Family dinner at my son's tomorrow. Other than that nothing special.

The milk delivery service had cinnamon pecan pie shells and a jar of pecan pie filling. I am planning on using one of the two pie shells to make the pie and being a pig the rest of the weekend. Other than that I am pulling weeds and trying to kill tree and brush regrowth.

I am also looking forward to the cool front that is supposed to be here either Sunday or Monday if the NWS and Mother Nature can make up their minds.

We're expecting temperatures of 120° through Monday, both of which would break records (which should not be a surprise), and so we're staying it. We're in an excessive heat watch. Pool temperatures are in the 90s, and there is very little wind. I went in the pool yesterday, but it was only about 110° according to the thermometer on my patio, although my thermostat said it was 115° outside. I think my patio is a bit cooler because it is on the north side of the house. There was enough shade by 4 PM for me to go in the pool, which was 91° but felt cooler. However, when I splashed water on myself, the splashed water felt hot.

We cleaned our bathrooms this morning, and I plan to put up some hooks in the kitchen and in the cleaning closet so that I can hang brooms, mops, etc.

We have plenty of leftovers to eat, but the house is still cool enough for cooking, if I get so inclined.

111 degrees here, Lars, so we'll just stay in. I covered some plants. We were asked to unplug "energy vampires," so I did what I could on that. We are asked to put A/C on 78 which is fine. Cannot walk across the patio in bare feet, that's for sure!

After 6 months of no grocery shopping, I finally braved Trader Joes, so we have food. Lots of outdoor dining places here but they probably won't be popular today or tomorrow.

Lars, I hope you'll be careful, I've seen your excessive heat warnings. We're supposed to be warm here too, but nothing like what you are experiencing. It will probably be enough to bring crowds to the beach so we'll stay close to home. It was hot for our standards on Thursday, downright cool yesterday with lasting fog. It's nice today but I can see a bit of haze in the sky that we're told is coming from California wildfires.

No real plans. A friend dropped off two tenderloin steaks this morning and I think we'll try those tonight. His wife had bought a whole tenderloin, they were cutting steaks and repackaging from that. A Winco store where I've never shopped when in Olympia.

We'll just be kicking around the house. It will be 100 here on Monday so that will pretty much be an indoors day. I'm making a huge batch of Italian sausage today (for the freezer). I might be making ribs on Monday with the grill set up in the shade.

No we don't have any plans. But we will be picking up BBQ plates today for dinner tonight.

Your deviled eggs sounds great. I haven't had any in a long time but we both love them. I might just have to make some.

ediej1209 AL Zn 7 Horseback riding. I am doing a virtual endurance race. Instead of 100 miles in 1 day as this one would be in non Covid times, it is a 100 miles in a hundred days. Has to be on the same horse and since I don't own or lease a horse, I have to get my time in on a school horse making it a bit more challenging schedule/distance wise. To finish is to win.

@wildchild2X2, That still sounds like fun. Wish I could have participated in rides back in the day but never had the opportunity. Hope you get several of your miles ticked off this weekend!

@Lars, Oh My Goodness, in those temperatures your pool sounds like it could get close to dangerously hot, too! Please be careful!!

The weather has been great the past few days, low 80's, low humidity and a breeze. Perfect.

I stocked the refrigerator and pantry on Friday so we could stay inside through this extreme heat. If the inside temperatures get unbearable, we can run the A/C for two hours or so around 10 p.m. to cool the house down. Ordinarily, we get a nice onshore breeze at night, but I understand that won't be the case with this stalled high pressure system. Lars, I'm so happy that I'm not in the desert with you!

I plan to watch a few episodes of a show on Prime. We are supposed to conserve energy so I shouldn't even do laundry. I'm so disappointed...not! Of course, it's not like the dirty laundry disappears. It will still be waiting for me after the heat breaks. I usually change my summer decor to autumn decor over Labor Day weekend, but not this year.

We got the BBQ! Enough for 2 meals each.

Work out in the yard, painting and cutting down overgrown vines.

It seems that I may have to buy a new refrigerator. I think it was 2 years ago that I spent researching dishwashers. Ugh! Well, at least HD has air conditioning.

Southern q bbq on Richey road. They have awesome BBQ. They have been on the TV bbq contest shows and won several times.

No plans, Every day is pretty much the same. We did go for anice 4 mile walk in a gorgeous park nearby with the dog, and now sitting and playing on the internet. We were never super social but this covid has really done a number on us. No plans at all. Thank goodness we will be seeing our grands on Tuesday. (outside as always but it's better than through a window).

All weekend it's been in the HIGH 80's. Monday night/tomorrow, it's supposed to get down to 24f-25f, with 4"-5" of SNOW! We own three houses with sprinkler systems we have to go blow out. Then Wednesday it works it's way back UP in temps and NO more snow in the forecast for the next week.

Send some of that snow our way! 110* today, down to 100* tomorrow with smoke from the fires in our area! Bought a costco chicken to last us a few days. We usually only do take out once a week, but if this heat keeps up..........

around 106 tomorrow where I am. 109 in phx I won't do much or anything special. maybe some laundry and dishes. My BIL is grilling out and will bring me over some food late in the day. I always look forward to that! I don't have to cook or even think about what I'll eat. I'll eat what he brings. one of his hamburgers makes 4 for me... I usually freeze half of it. I'll have a salad early in the day.

when I had homes with a pool (in AZ) I banned swimming between noon and 4-5 pm in the high heat of the summer. tho, in 1990 when it was 122 out and our swamp cooler died - we jumped in and out to cool off that day. the dogs 'wore' water soaked towels on their backs. in the dry desert the evening air is cool when you get out of the pool. I remember keeping a beach towel or light robe within reach when I got out of the pool at night - even when it was 103 outside. I don't have a pool where I am now and sometimes I wish I did but I couldn't do the upkeep now and it would be dangerous for me being here alone.

DS, DIL, DGS (15) and DGD (9) were here on our screened porch yesterday afternoon, just drinking ginger ale and munching on Triscuits, cheese, grapes, apple slices, cookies, etc. "Big Bird", our resident heron, flew up out of her nest in our creek to get her snacks farther upstream near the golf course. We'd had morning rain, and had a bit of thunder while they were here, but the 'storm with damaging winds' that was predicted overnight evidently had other plans.

Tuesday DIL starts teaching math remotely to 23 6th Graders and 32 7th Graders enrolled in her Chicago Public School. Her 8th Grade calculus group is smaller. I don't know how DIL does this, but she managed it all last spring. She'll be in her basement 'studio'.

DGS did well with his remote learning from a STEM program at a CPS HS -- even improved his grades in spring. He has six majors and will be keeping school hours at his desk on the first floor at home.

I'm freaking about DGD. She's attended the same parochial school since pre-K. They created a good remote learning program taught by the school's teachers when COVID hit in spring, but offered only a cheap plug-in remote 'concept' this fall. The archdiocese insists on having the kids and teachers IN SCHOOL! After a week of frustration with the remote 'non-program', DGD will be in a classroom starting tomorrow.

I see disaster looming within a week...but she's their DD, not mine. The school is NOT TESTING for the virus! Which child or teacher *already has* COVID -- or will have it within a week? What you do with a 9-yr-old in quarantine in her own home? DGS is fit, but DS and DIL are nearing 50 and overweight.

SIGH...

Simple plans for tonight.

AF Hot Dog w/Pesto, Onion, Pepperoncini, Cheese, Kinder’s BBQ Sauce on Skillet Grilled Brioche Bun, IP Mac & Cheese, and 3 Bean Salad. Looking forward to it; haven't had a hot dog in a long, long time.

UPDATE: Did cook the hot dog in the air fryer, grilled the brioche bun in a skillet with olive oil, did add the pepperoncini and Kinder’s, but not the cheese and onion. Found had no macaroni, so subbed with ditalini. Had it with a beer and enjoyed. The "china" was perfect for Labor Day.
