Desperately need to enhance curb appeal

We have lived in our house for 7 years and would like to update the landscaping now that we have a little more money to spend. We currently have boxwoods directly in front of our house, but one of them died and the area looks kinda sad now. I think I need to dig all of the boxwoods up and redo the area to the left and right of the front door colums.

Also, those are smoke trees that are planted beside the faux window. I would like to put something in the middle, but do not have any great ideas.

-Oklahoma City (Zone 7a)

-North facing home (Front door faces North)

-The side of the house faces west and is clay

-Soil report showed acidity of 7.8 and nutrients were 9-448-375

I have thought about having a dwarf alberta spruce planted next to each column, but am concerned about our hot and humid summers heat

.

This picture was taken July 1 at 2:45 p.m. if that helps with amount of shade

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!
