This morning at the grocery store a child about 4 years old repeatedly took off her mask and threw it on the floor. Mom kept yelling to put it back on. I was cringing at the sight of the dirty mask back on her face after it had been on the floor several times.

That's exactly why our 2 1/2 yr old niece isn't going to preschool as had been planned in Sept. At her age, it just about takes Mom (or Dad) or a family member to supervise a toddler's compliance with the mask (and its going to be required at the private school). She'll be fine at home, Mom will be there with her, it wasn't a case of dropping her at preschool and going to the office.

So right, Glenda. Teachers are too busy to keep up with who is wearing which mask. They are likely hard-pressed just getting all of them to wash their hands.

A good reason to make the child part of the mask-choosing process. JoahLove makes a variety of masks in kid size, most of which also come in adult size, so they can have Mommy-and-Me matching masks. Let the kids choose which mask they want, and they'll be more likely to wear it and not exchange it with another kid.

All summer long in my neighbourhood the kids have bee running from one kids home to the next- assuming at one point or another they are in the houses too. None of them have masks on when playing with one and other. I have overheard a kids conversation of a cousin is staying at his house. Some of these kids will attend public school and some catholic school in September. Even if the teachers are able to keep the kids and masks on - what is the point if the moment they get off the bus they take them off and hang out together.? There is an ever gaining momentum of people sliding into lack of compliance with guidelines regulations etc that were set out to prevent an overwhelming outbreak. In my region we have been extremely lucky and I put it down to the public's willingness to do the inconvenient masks and not allow the virus to spread by staying separate. But more and more people are travelling gathering and not doing what it takes to prevent an outbreak.

A fictional possibility based on conversations I have heard and observed. A boy named Dave stays with his cousin for the weekend. The week before Dave's parents travelled to another part of the province for a funereal. Unbenounced to them someone at the funeral was infected with covid the week prior. So now Dave is at Ben's home when the neighbour hood kids invite them to play. On Monday Ben and the neighbours go back to school where some attend the after and before school programs and some of them took the bus. A week later Dave's parents get the news that they have tested positive, as is Dave as is Ben as are the neighbour kids their parents and siblings, all the the kids on the bus all the kids in several classrooms two different schools the kids in the before and after school programs the teachers the teachers families bus drivers and their families, custodians, all at risk of spreading to even more people. Not to mention co worker of the parents of these children.

So ya good luck teachers.

At least here with contact tracing they won't be able to blame the teachers. I just hope the teachers don't get it from the students who got it from their parents or their friends' parents. Teachers already go through enough as far as I'm concerned and hardly get paid for their value.

They are asked to be in the front of the frontline how nice.!.

One more comment. I bet a lot of parents are much more appreciative of their teachers than before. They actually had to try to teach their kids things themselves and realize how tough it is to corral little minds!

Contact tracing only works if there are enough workers to do the tracing which most states to not have. Another one of those things that on the surface looks good but in reality can not happen because of the understaffing. Over 2,000 new cases today if they were only with 10 people since they became infected as a base for contact tracing that is over 20,000 traces.

So what's your point? Kids are pretty immune to this. Let them have some fun.

Kids have died from this and many were seriously ill.

I think that a former teacher with many years' experience prior to retirement has a good knowledge of how kids operate ... and it would be wise to accept her judgement.

I'm not sure who or what you're referring to but there are plenty of people with plenty of years of experience doing whatever they did, who learned nothing between Year 1 and their last year. Many years of doing the same thing the same sub-par way without gaining insights from what careful observation and learning from mistakes in those years can provide. I've known plenty, most especially as I think about it among school teachers.

Experience can be very overrated.

DD had a "rule" for DGD that she had to wear her long hair up for school. This was in the hopes of making it less likely she would get head lice. The rule worked in pre-school and kindergarten. By the end of first grade it was all over. LOL Grand daughter would come out of class with a new hair style each day. The little girls were doing each others hair at recess. When DD reminded her of the rule to have it up DGD replied it was. She just had it up differently than when she arrived.

Positives for COVID on college campuses are skyrocketing. Now Trump Toady Dr. Brix says college students should not go home, but stay where they are.

She went along with Trump's push to put students back inside schools, didn't and now she doesn't want students to go home *because they will spread the virus*. How is it better that they stay and infect their teachers and everyone else on the campuses, plus everyone in the towns and cities where the campuses are located? How will hospitals and health systems near these campuses cope with the burgeoning COVID cases incubated from the *back to school* mandate?

Forgot to mention hubby was joking about kids 'trading' masks yesterday too 😄

My comment was a response to what you said joyful. I said I disagree with what you said because I don't believe all "experience" leads to added knowledge or insights.

Kids will be kids. DD thought she was getting past the crazy idea stage. Today grandson trimmed his own hair. Actually it looks pretty good. Like an intentional choppy fringe in front.

Her message:

WT.... Why????? You know that is not allowed.

Answer: Because I wet my hair (with the spray bottle) and it (hair) started dripping. He doesn't want hair in his eyes anymore.

Punchline.... So he cut off the really drippy parts. Problem solved.

I know someone who did contract tracing for a while. It was a cluster. The person had a hard time getting people to answer the phone or call back. Then there was a language barrier.

Ancestry updated their yearbooks recently. I found my first grade picture. We had a good laugh. Kids do what kids do. Back when I was in elementary school, the photographer would bring each of us a comb so we could comb our hair before the picture. One of the kids had a great idea to wet his hair and slick his hair down. Several of us followed suit. My hair was plastered down at the sides and sticking out behind my ears. My teeth were coming back in so I kind of had a snaggle tooth. grin. Lol!

I would have switched masks with someone else unless I thought mine was really cool.
