I think all the medium, outdated brown wood of the doors and trim bothers me even more than brown windows. And with the walls, outlets and switches in the house being bland almond, I am in desperate need of some color! I think I will be able to live with the contrast of the windows and trim, since there is no easy fix for any of it that I can find. I'm just hoping to find the look that is easiest on the eye and blends the best that it can. Many have recommended BM White Dove and I've used Simply White in the past.

This is the best I can do on pictures, it is a dark and rainy day. The stains on the roof will be power washed off soon. I have ordered white window boxes for the two windows on the right. I would like to brighten up the doors/shutters, as the house across the street has this same color palette.

If you focused on some greens and lots of whites in your furnishings and even some certain green on white, trellis prints in drapes or roman shades, over time, that will make your home look like a lovely garden. Than you can accent with the colors of your favorite flowers. You have a lovely home, you just have fun making it yours!! No one goes into the Forest and talks about removing all the trees and planting only bright annuals, that bloom for a few weeks. They marvel at the height and breadth of the trees! and may add some bulbs here and there where the sun allows. Bring is some brighter white lights in areas as you can and just love the fun you have doing soo. Such a work of many craftsmen is your home! It's done by humans, so flaws may show up. Some might bug you and other may not. As long as your warm in the winter and cool in the summer you have shelter, and thus time to go through phases of your home redecorating.

I’m following this post because I have the same issue with my living room — dark brown couch and very dark floors — brown overkill! Can I ask for more specific advice, if possible? Should my rug be mostly ivory, with tan accents? Or will the tan color bring in more “brown?” Should I paint the brown wooden top on my fireplace white to eliminate some of the brown in the room?
