Paint Wainscoting Same Paint as Walls??

Hi, so Im having wainscoting Installed in my dining room, it’s a full wall layered board and batten style, that I recently saw at a model house and loved it. I will be painting It myself.

However, im confused as to what paint to use. Typically I use Benjamin Moore advance on all my trim, and behr or sherwin Williams on my wall.

However, in this house they seemed to have used the same paint on both the trim and the walls, is this correct? Can you please take a look for yourself and decide if that’s what’s they have done:

Sorry that is not wainscoting BTW Post a picture of your space that is the only way to get help for your space.

Wainscoting is a broader term referring to decorative paneling used for centuries as: a) a wall accent; b) insulation and; c) to prevent (and cover up) damage to walls. It typically is made of wood, and covers the lower three or four feet of an interior wall.

Why can't you paint your ceiling red? If you like the red walls -- why not a red ceiling? I tend to paint the ceilings the same color as the walls, but if you have crown molding a contrast works well. I just don't like to see different colors on the walls and ceiling when there isn't any molding separating them. Just my opinion.

Deeper color would be cool (not that leaving it white is wrong). Hard to comment on what exactly the color should be..can't see your backsplash very well. Would you describe it as grayish blue(that's what I see on my monitor), or..? why is it trouble that you still like your vintage posters? I think there's no trouble at all..makes all sense when one's attached to the art he owns, otherwise why to have it. I think the poster will work very nice in your kitchen, whether you choose a color or leave it white.

I agree with Sandee. I'm a ceiling and wall in the same color but not sheen. This is a hotly contested topic which skews to white ceiling, but a few if us hold fast to same color. An even fewer individuals advocate for a completely different color. I'm glad they exist to keep things lively :) There's no hard and fast rule. It does cost a little less to do the same color, labor wise although you'll buy a different sheen. For dark colors go a few/shades lighter for the ceiling.

I don't like the wainscoting in the music room. It is too phony looking, as if it was an afterthought. Can you remove it? Yes, I like painting the music room all one color. Have you considered any other color for the music room, working off the dining room color? This is B.M. Sag Harbor Gray. It appeals to me because it is more of a mellow green/taupe.

I was mostly just looking to see if it’s ok to use the same wall paint on the trim as well, or do I have to use a trim paint. I want a very cohesive look

Using the same color for the walls and trim can look really nice. I would use a different finish, such as satin or eggshell for the walls and semi-gloss for the trim and doors.

OK so whatever you call i... if you go two sheen's up it does add more depth. Just remember the flatter you go the harder it is to keep clean.

So you can do different wall sheen in different rooms and that also adds depth/contrast from room to room if you have an open plan house.

The shinier the sheen the darker the look.

Do you mean the higher than average baseboard at the bottom of the wall?

Would keep it all the same color as the wall.
