Can you please name this succulent (Qatar)
Comments (7)No, asparagus fern is different than asparagus you eat, so first you need to determine which one you have. *****Asparagus fern (Asparagus densiflorus) is related to the asparagus plant and is very similar, except that it lacks the edible stalk in the beginning. The berries of this plant cause the same intestinal reaction as those from the edible asparagus plant. Contact with the sap produced from this plant causes a low-level rash, usually only lasting a few minutes. Asparagus fern is toxic to cats and dogs, causing skin irritation with exposure to the sap and gastrointestinal issues with consumption of the berries.)***** The edible one is Asparagus officinalis. You can buy seeds and/or roots for this one & plant. Takes few years to get them to harvest size. You could grow it from seeds collected from female plants, just make sure you have the right plant to collect seeds from....See Moreamazing looking succulent too good to be true?
Comments (9)The first is, as stated by Harry, Echeveria agavoides. In the USA, it is called by several variety names; 'Lipstick', 'Red Edge', 'Red Tip', etc. These have now been placed under the name Echeveria corduroyi. The coloration all depends on sun exposure as demonstrated by Harry's pictures. So to answer your query about the first picture, YES it is a real, relatively easy to grow and flower. Having said all of this, you may want to consider that it is Echeveria 'Frank Reinelt', a very desirable "agavoides" type Echeveria! With age the leaves will elongate and take on a very nice red blush....See MorePlease help me name this succulent.
Comments (2)Looks like a gasteria, perhaps Gasteria bicolor. Reddening of the foliage is typically a reaction to stress, even more sun than it has been used to. That soil looks a little heavy and wet for succulents......that could also be an issue....See MoreNames of these succulents? Help please
Comments (2)I'd agree with Lisa-- The first is definitely an Echeveria. I'm guessing that it is a form or hybrid of E. agavoides, based on the tips. Not all have red margins like the famous 'Lipstick' and 'Ebony' cultivars. Lisa may also be correct about the second one (the Sedum).... Though I do think that it could also be a Sedum adolphii. Happy gardening! :)...See Morelinnea56 (zone 5b Chicago)
