Perhaps it might help to first decide if you are more drawn to colours from the same Hue Family as your brick, Yellow-Red. Or adjacent, Yellow Hue Family maybe? Or for a little more drama for your front door, try the complementary Hue Family of Blue.

get rid of the browns.

(obviously updating the landscaping, hardscape on the front porch, and driveway, will have a huge impact)

consider doing a darker garage door (you can paint it) AND adding a top row of window inserts. maybe some carriage hardware.

carriage hardware:

Go black or dark charcoal on the garage door (add a top row of lites as Beth H suggested) and use the same black or dark charcoal on both areas of siding and on the window trim. If the windows with the siding inbetween are the same colour, that whole area will read more as a ground-to-roof glassed unit and will look cool. Because your house will be predominantly neutral colours (brown and black/charcoal), you can go with any colour for your front door or you could go with a wood-grain front door. But first, please, get rid of the storm door. Also, update your lighting, what's there looks like builder grade. The landscaping also looks builder grade and unloved. Replace the patio stone sidewalk with something more upscale and make it go to the street. That way you and your guests will have a specific way to get to your front door and not have to walk around cars in your driveway. Your front yard doesn't look big so it will be easy to landscape. Pull out the overgrown shrubs and replace with gardens. Your local nursery can help you with what to plant.

Brown Dog: Not sure I'd want black or charcoal but I agree that a darker colour is best. Perhaps a very dark brown. Yes, the front is awful, I can't stand it. Although old looking, the greenery usually looks better but we pulled stuff and haven't replaced. The grass is loved. As stated, we are starting to fix the front but can't do it all at once and are starting with the front door, then garage door, then trim. I have new lights on order and we are getting rid of the storm door! The new door can't have one. Next year, redoing the driveway and hopefully landscaping. The yard is about twice as big as you see with a big tree (I was just standing halfway up the drive). EDIT: Pic was taken last March in Canada! Not the best looking time of year.

Beth: Where did you get that program to superimpose elements on my photo? Is that available to the general public?

nooks,,,I just use my Mac desktop, Preview, copy and paste. transfer a copy from one photo, and paste it to another photo using preview. it's rudimentary, but it works. what I can't do (or don't know how) is curved or slanted lines. there are other programs for that

and stay away from Brown. Try Urbane Bronze if you want that color family. it would look nicer on the trim. Or Iron Ore.

doing a stark white or pale gray doesn't really blend well w/the dark brick.

if you're getting a new garage door, get one w/the top row of lights and the hardware. (and not the arched inserts. you want something modern/square)

if you're doing a door w/glass like this, do the same on the garage door

think about elongating your porch w/slate or tile, and take it over to the right more.

Oh wow! Lots of good ideas. Beth, I don't have a Mac anymore and have never used any photo editing software (looking around for one now, may use Paint?). I'd really like to do what you guys are doing and fiddle around with colours.

I like the idea of extending the front step a little, never thought of that. Maybe next year we will be doing our driveway and front landscaping and I hope to put stone tiles in the front.
